I just got a les paul studio and I'm considering boss for my dirty tones. I'm running everything through a small 1x12 fender pro junior tube amp. Don't know too much about boss past what I've demoed at guitar center. Is the OS-2 a worthwhile investment or would it be wiser to buy separate overdrive and distortion pedals? Suggestions appreciated.

The OS-2 is a GREAT pedal! Very versatile & sounds good too. I imagine you'll end up with a few different distortion & overdrive pedals. The DS-1 is the standard. FZ-2 is a good fuzz. MT-2 is an excellent distortion with 2 gain stages & parametric mid EQ. The OD-3 is as transparent overdrive as you'll find while the BD-2 is similar yet sports a good edge.

Btw, welcome to the forum.

I need a wide variety of tones, from fuzzy wuzzy to deep chug. I was looking at the analogman mod site and saw that they do pretty intensive mods on the ds-1 and sd-1. I need to cover all bases with my distortion before I start buying other pedals (probably going to buy a lot of the EhX chorus and modulation effects)...perhaps combining the two modded pedals would be a good choice? Feedback please.

Hi squale welcome to the forum. You should be able to get a lot of your distortion from your tube amp. As exodia333 says there are a lot of discontiued pedals that are real nice with a tube amp, OD-1 comes to mind. I also agree with DeFrag OD-2 is a great pedal, but you wont get Metal Zone type sounds. It really depends on your own taste. I like to have a few OD's and distortions around and experiment with them.

I have four kind of sounds: clean Marshall (isn't a real clean anyway...) crunch Marshall (just for some fat sound) OD3 I used to call it "the ham under the bread" useful for hard arpeggios or to keep the rhytmic chords and finally the DS1: "the multimedia" I can do almost anything with it fuzz, metal, hard rock, it seems like a sort of constant and penetrating drill. Obviously my nights aren't the same since I've tried Metal Zone... but I've to resist I DON'T NEED IT!!! ;)

Welcome to the forum.

Where you come from?

Exodia: "something" tells me that you like beer. In this moment I have a glass of original "Chianti" in my hand, do you know what is? No?! Too bad my friend, too bad...

squale: Try a boss OD-20 i personally don't like it as it has cosm modeling that sounds really thin but it's a good buy for a person who likes variety

Welcome to the forum squale!!

Not to highjack a thread, but I was meaning to start one regarding drive/ distortion and I've been hesitant. I think:
1) It's been done many times?
2) It'll be huge - for sure!
3) It will be contentious and confusing!!!

I've gone through all the modulation stuff and am now ready to learn this area - so many pedals out there for this - so many Boss ones just to start there!
So, what are the must haves, the best, the most versatile, the rarest????

haha good to see so many people eager to explore boss distortion and overdrive sounds, as well as those effects in general. i hail from good old US of A in New Jersey, currently a college student in and out of bands.

to repeat an unanswered question, has anyone tried the analogman mods? seeing how this is a largely international forum and he's located in Connecticut i believe, many people may have not...
