i just got 2 pedals tonight. a PSM-5 and FZ-3. when i get a new pedal, i like to check serial numbers, etc for some background.

anyway, i checked my MIJ PSM-5 with serial "IB32079" it says MIJ, produced in April 1990.didnt production go to Taiwan in the late 80s? also the serial is a sticker on the back label and not under the battery compartment. but i seem to remember a thread saying that some MIJ went into the 90s.

also my FZ-3 serial "zj41921" is dated January 97, but the book says they werent made until February 1997.

The pedal says 'Japan' or 'Made in Japan' on it?
Perhaps the sticker blank or backplate label was old stock they were still using up after the move to Taiwan. Just guessing, but I do know my Taiwanese DD-3 came in a box that says 'Made in Japan' on the side.

Well AFAIK the DC-3 was a Japanese made only pedal, and it was in production until 1993, so some pedals must've saw their production run out in Japan after most of the others had made the shift.

I've was told there was a overlap in production between the two factories. the japan factoy didn't close up shop as soon as the taiwan one opened. this could have been up to a few years after

Both pedals appear to be the real thing.
The PSM-5 production moved to Taiwan early 1992 and continued till the end of 1998.

The FZ-3 production started either Dec-96 or Jan-97 so yours is an early example. The earliest observed serial number so far is ZJ40955 which is made the same month as yours.

Bossarea: Can you do/create a form (databasformulr in Swedish) so we can fill in everything you need to know about serials; label type, type of screw etc?
I know you are quite good with computer systems. And this way you could collect serials in a nice way.

Yes, I collect numbers for any compact pedal so if you get round to typing them in, please mail me the info (borgetx@hotmail.com). I'm looking for label colour, Japan/Taiwan, serial number as well as any information about variations (like Octaver or Octave etc).
Oh, and this goes for everyone. Please keep sending me your serial numbers.

I have been thinking about this. To prevent random spammers from entering bullshit info it would have to be part of the forum and that makes the implementation a little more difficult. I am currently working on adding the poll mod, avatar mod and an anti-spam mod and that will take some time but after that I might get round to the serial number database.

Maybe it could be a section of the site where we could add info, but it gets sent to you for approval first?

It could be with the sections of labels, and serial decoder
