Hello SKY & Guys.
Thanks for your Private Mail (PM). I have re-posted a copy of it here on the forum, so other members can help out, as well as benefit from the outcome.
===Extract=== hi.. can you help me ? i just bought DS-1 MIT first version from ebay.. and i found that the it has volume loss.. i set everything on full. and it still lower than the clean sound.. is all DS-1 like that ? because this is my first DS-1.. any idea about what should do with it ?
thx for your concern, Yana (Sky) ===End Extract===
I have not experienced this phenomenon with the DS-1's that I have here. Perhaps you are running really hot pickups into it or hi-output Humbuckers.
Please tell us more about your setup & anything you notice about the DS-1, to help us help you. Are you running it off a plug pack, or Battery? Is it a "KNOWN GOOD" Battery? What are you running BEFORE & AFTER this DS-1.
Regards Dr. Bob

i've experienced the same thing with several MIT DS-1's.
something i've noticed is that the DS-1's with the newer IC seem to have less of a problem with this but at the same time they are a bit more trebly and thin.
i don't have this problem with MIJ DS-1's.
the keeley mods are usually good for opening up tone a bit and boosting volume, even if you don't change out the clipping diodes, etc. often just the caps and resistors will help.
this will change the tone slightly but should give a volume increase: C1, C5, C12 to 0.1 uF cap (metal film) C2, C8, C9, C14 to 1 uF cap (metal film) R39 to 20K resistor R14 to 1.5K resistor

I have the same exact problem with my MIT DS-1. I'm running a Shecter Damien 6 with EMG HZ humbuckers into it. They're pretty hot for passives i guess. I'd like to know if others are experiencing this with only high output pups or if I just need to suck it up and mod this pedal. Thanx! Edit: I'm running it off a power supply into a Morley pro-wah to DD-20 to TU-2 then out to my Vox VT50-212 |

I would check/replace Q6 and Q7. They are rated with IDSS min 0,3 mA. If you get a JFET device which is that bad it will sound exactly the way you described.

| also you should check out batery cable, if you run it on batery, damaged batery cable could also increase volume loss |

All very good points but the original one made by Dr Bob is very valid..one of the biggest problems i had was running an active strat into a DS-1/OD-2... serious volume loss when stomped on for a boost.....passive strat/tele ..no probs........ |

I've never run an active pickup into a DS-1 so haven't experienced this.
I can say that I did another seeing eye/ultra mod for an acquaintance last week and we pulled down the old stock MIT DS_1 to compare the modded pedal to and the stock one had no volume boost (and it sounded really thin).
I'd recommend doing the seeing eye/ultra mod to any DS-1 and that should fix any issues you have... The URLs to the instructions are in another recent thread.
