I really don't post that much here, but I've been hankering for the perfect spring reverb pedal for a long time and the new Boss FRV sounds amazing!!! One question though, for those of you have used the FRV-1 and either the RV-3 or RV-5..... how does the actual volume of the reverb compare between the FRV and the RV's? I find the reverb in the RV's way too quiet, which is really frustrating, and I've really gone off using them, so does the FRV have a louder reverb sound to it?
BTW I'm currently I'm using a Tech 21 Boost RVB, which sounds gorgeous and the boost is really useful, but the 'spring' sounds obviously lack that true 'drip/sproing' sound :D
Any info much appreciated. |

Haven't had a chance to try this yet.
I found the reverb on the FDR-1 to be disappointing. The length of the reverb was the same now matter how hard or soft you hit the note. Is this thing better than the FDR-1? If you hit it hard, does it echo for longer and louder like a real reverb?
Also, have they tried to put in naff scratches and things this time? (hoping not).
If it's better, I'll definitely buy one. I hope that Boss releases an updated, better MkII FDR-1, because I really want one, I just want it to be good.
Sorry for the delay in replying Noodler, I have been away for a much needed holiday
Firstly, there are no "naff scratches" or anything like that on the '65 Deluxe Reverb or '59 Bassman pedals...and there's nothing like that on the new '63 Fender Reverb pedal either! What made you think there were?
I have an FDR-1 but never used the reverb on it, I used to always use the onboard reverb on my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amp.
The FRV-1 has a much more convincing reverb than the FDR-1 to my ears. How good you think it is will be down to you, it's certainly much better than the FDR-1's reverb (although I think the tremolo on that pedal is killer). I like what I've been getting out of it so far, even though I've not had much time with it yet.
I've got myself an FDR-1 too last weekend, and I agree with you Kipper, the tremolo/ vibrato is an absolute killer. The reverb is not that bad to my ears. Maybe the FRV-1 is better but I'm not going to buy two pedals with reverb if I play through two amps where one of them has already built in reverb and I use my FDR-1 for the other amp. |

The FRV-1 is streets ahead of the FDR-1's reverb even though I'd agree the FDR-1 reverb isn't bad. Why not try one out and see what you think of it? I haven't used the onboard reverb of my Hot Rod Deluxe since I got the FRV-1. Glad you like the tremolo on the FDR-1, it's freakin' awesome IMO. Boss even got the labelling authentic by mistakenly calling the tremolo function "vibrato", just as Fender did on the original '65 amp and pretty much every other amp with onboard tremolo ever since!!! |

Excellent video, thanks for posting. Only thing they got wrong was describing the pedal as having "classic Fender tweed" looks, as we know it actually has brown tolex looks just like the original reverb unit! |

Sounds like it's got a pretty decent level. I'm going to try and track one down in the flesh and try it first though. |
