I picked one of these up off ebay for $10 a while back - needed the power jack resoldered. I don't know if any of y'all has played with one of these, but if you like big distortion boxes, it might be worth checking out. This is the older metal case Danelectro.
I would describe it as a DS-1 with the distortion knob up all the way. There is no distortion control on this pedal. Set the Level at 9:00, the Bass at 3:00, the Treble at 9:00 or less, and the Fab knob full up. The "Fab" control should be labelled "Thump". It didn't seem to do much when I tested it before with a single 12" speaker, but this weekend I put it in front of the Boss GT-Pro & into 2 powered PAs with 15" woofers. Great chunky thump.
There were 2 things that stood out to me - the bass is tighter than the DS-1 - even with the big thump and it has a slight cocked-wah sound in the midrange that gives it its own character. With the Fab control all the way up, it gets what I think metal guys like to refer to as "punishing". :)
Also interesting was the fact that the ME-50's DS-1 setting was able to get closer to it than my actual DS-1 pedal (without the cocked-wah midrange). The ME-50 has a Bottom control to get that thump & its low end is tighter with distortion than my MIT DS-1.
Anyway, they go cheap on ebay if you wanted to check out something new. The reviews on Harmony-Central are great. You either love it hate it. If you set all the knobs at 12:00, it's probably the worst sounding pedal you've ever heard. Set it up right & it's actually kinda cool. |

Yeah dude you've struck gold there-
Thats a really cool metal pedal.....
I had one of those and loved it to bits- mines broke now though unfortunately because the build quality is absolutely rubbish- they always break.......grrrrrr.........
Sounds really good when/if it works though ;) |

| The jacks are soldered to the PCB & then not mounted to the case in any way, so it's easy to break the solder joints. |

I have a few of the Danelectro's including the Fab Tone. I really liked it going into my solid state amp, but was never as fussed with it going into my Epi Valve Junior. I also have the Daddy-O, Blue Paisley Pure Drive and the Black Paisley Liquid Metal. They are all pretty good. |

| The new Danelectro Cool Cat series seems to be very good pedals, true bypass and metal housings. I have/had Fuzz, Transparent overdrive and Vibe, for the price they are outstanding IMO. |
