Hi Goran & Guys Good article, pity they didn't compare it to the POD2.x. The POD2.x series or later, is pretty much on every, major or minor, studios gear list.

| I've had Line6, Vox and Peavey modeling amps. By and far, the Peavey Vypyr amp I now have sounds the best to my ears and is the easiest for me to use. Peavey says the secret is that they use analog distortion and build upon that with the modeled amps and effects. Whatever it is, I like it. I also like that they offer a 5 year warranty on the Vypyr amps, as opposed to the 1 year offered by Line 6 and Vox. |

I have a POD 2.0... the last piece in a long line of modelling gear that started with an Alesis Quadraverb GT nearly 20 years ago.
I'm back to the tube amps and a few pedals... |

I bought a POD v1 when they first came out and upgraded it with a v2 chip when that came out. I used it for several years with a valve power amp and 4*12. I then foolishly bought the POD XT live and whilst the unit does everything is says on the tin and works brilliantly, I always preferred the sound of the POD 2. But like Laurie, now I've gone full circle and have just bought a Laney Lionheart 5 watt combo |

| One more thought...I used to travel a lot and the Line 6 PocketPod was a life saver for for hotel rooms and I still use it loads when noodling in the lounge whilst the wife watches TV |

I have the Pod XT pro i use it in my rack for extra delay/reverb and for the switchable effects loop on gigs i found it easier to buy the old FBV 4 for switching the first 4 programs during a gig,i keep channel B with the effects loop on,on all banks so i know the Leslie unit thats looped in the effects loop is alwayS on B cuts down on the thinking on the gigs.. ...i don't use any of the amp simulations live,i have used them for recording with good results and i also use it with headphones in the house to keep Mrs F happy but IMHO nothing beats a good amp... |

I never saw the use for multiple sounds, whether they sounded good or shitty. I hardly ever use the clean channel on my amp, my only effects are chorus and delay, and I add more overdrive if desired with a BD-2. I do change a lot of sounds with the controls on my guitar.
I figure the POD's could come in handy if you play in a TOP-100 coversband and need different sounds to capture the feel of all the different songs. |
