Greetings everyone. My first ever post to the BossArea Forum so apologies in advance if I make any newb mistakes.
I've been enjoying doing mods on several boss pedals and i've seen these caps below a lot in BOSS pedals. I've scoured the internet the best I can and cant seem to find the "type" they are or the manufacturer. I'm assuming they are a poly film type capactior but I'd like to find more specifics.
Here is a picture with the circuit board full of the things. They are the silver ones. i.e. C12, C5, C2. I checked the numbers on the cap and found no references to mfg. just total capacitance and tolerance codes. This is a pic from overdrive spider's mod page and has a close up of the circuit board with pictures of the capacitors.
Haven't ever seen this question before... those of us who mod stuff just use the best quality we can find/afford. Are you looking at repairs to a pedal and want to have it look exactly the same as the original parts? Or just looking for capacitors in general for modding?
typically i do mods so I'm pulling them out. I replace them with poly, metal, or mylar. I have just noticed that I never see them online to purchase from the different suppliers. I try to keep the originals but they have a way of growing legs and walking off.
So, was wondering where I could source the originals to go back to true "BOSS Specs" if I had to.
I think zerksies has a valid point. A big company like Roland is using 1000s of capacitors and they will try to minimize their costs by getting the best possible deals. When opening up pedals of different ages, we often find that the capacitor brand has changed many times over the lifespan of a model.
