a guy here in dublin by the name of mark walsh started a campaign to get a bronze replica of rorys strat mounted on the wall of rory gallagher corner in temple bar in dublin,he was sucessful after coming up against some opposition from the owners of the building on the corner(an art gallery...! unbelieveable)it was unveiled a couple of weeks ago by the edge of u2 and rorys brother donal.... looks cool having it there... theres also a bronze statue to phil lynott with his famous fender precision bass including bronze strings.!that up off georges st so if your ever in dublin check them out...
Perhaps out of your price range but I think the recent American Deluxe and Custom Shop models are some of the best Strats ever made. You could probably get an American Deluxe under 1000 USD if you go used. I would save up and get one if possible. Then you don�t need to worry about changing pickups and it will hold its value better if you decide you don�t want it.
