it's about time:

http://www.fender.com/sonicyouth/

no drumsticks included, but each guitar comes with a 24 page SY gear-nerd 'zine -- I can't afford these guitars, but I'd sure like a copy of the 'zine by itself.

finally, I wonder if the "wide Range" humbuckers in Lee's guitar are close to the Seth Lover-designed originals , or are merely the same cosmetic-only replicas that come stock with the current Telecaster Deluxe reissue?

They do look pretty sweet, but don't think I'd get one. The 'streamlined' controls might suit Sonic Youth's preferences, but I like options.

I do like some signature models, but they are (most of the time) overpriced (these cost about $1600). I don't like the finish on these models and would still like to have a tone knob.

saw these a while ago and immediately dismissed them as rubbish w/out the tone knob...and i mean, doesn't a SY sig model seem a bit self defeatist?...

I think they're attractive variants on the Jazzmaster design, and would certainly appeal to many non-SY fans. I'm glad the sig itself is on the back of the headstock. Most sigs are very overpriced and don't necessarily get one that much closer to one's hero's sound. A tone knob is an easy add.. I just wish they'd offer some of these cosmetic specs on other guitars!

from the site's text, the Wide-Range humbuckers should be an improved reissue.. but they still sort-of eliminate the option of changing to normal pickups without getting a new guard.
