Am I right in thinking I can use a Boss NS-2 to gate out the hum from my Big Muff Pi?

I picked up the BM just this week, and with the sustain up there's a lot of hum during the gaps between notes - not over the notes though, just inbetween - and the hum increases as the note fades away, which suggests to me it's due to the gain of the unit, not simply dodgy connections/grounding etc. I've tried battery and adapter power, and the hum's the same. I'll try some other cables too. But if it turns out I need some kind of gate/supressor, I was wondering if the NS-2 would be appropriate. I'm running keys through the Pi, not guitars, if that helps.

Had an opportunity to try out my friend's '77 op amp BMP, yeah, lots o' gain there.
A noise gate/suppressor will do the trick.

yes it does help that you are using keys cause guitar pickups make a world of problems with noise. so to answer your question the ns2 will do the trick
