Hi. This is my first post here. I just found this place and it rocks!
I have an old DF-2. I never use it because I'm mainly a keyboard player and haven't had much time for guitar lately. Anyway, can anybody tell me more about this pedal? I bought it used on a whim for around 20 bucks off a random website about 10 years ago. I put some pictures up. I'm thinking about getting rid of it because I never use it, but should I hold on to it just because its cool? If I try to sell it, whats a good price?
Thanks!

Hi imnickb and welcome to the forum.
I know what you mean about the search part. It's in the process of a rewrite and will get better... eventually. |

| Looks to me like someone may have put a skeleton (clear) switch next to the battery compartment. Can't tell for sure. |

Good eye, I'm impressed. Shortly after I got the pedal, the switch broke. It was the black kind, not the clear. I ordered a new one online somewhere for a buck or so and when I got it, it wasn't black. It doesn't look like the clear kind that you see on earlier pedals either. It's shaped exactly like the black one it came with, except the base of the switch is white and the pole looking part of it is brown. |

| THe white/brown scheme was used on keyboard switches in the 80's - these switches used to be in mini-computer keyboards by the hundred. |

| Roland UK charge 3 GBP for the switches (plus VAT). Don't know how that compares to other countries. |

CAD$2.75 + tax here in Canada.
Small Bear does a better deal... http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=36 Note that all the switches I bought from Small Bear have been black, not the colour shown |

| That's it! I got it from small bear, I remember because the name is pretty cool. It was the only place I could find them. I don't remember the picture being white and brown, but the switch definitely is. It was probably at least 7 or 8 years ago though. |

So since I posted this the other day I decided to get out the pedal and play it. The feedback seems SUPER finicky, way more than I remember. Sometimes I get a sound that sounds like a cop car or something and then sometimes I get a weird clicking sound that you can hear at 2 mins, 50 seconds in this clip.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-4F6pjX8BM
I only seem to get a good feedbackish sounds about one out of 10 tries. More often than not, its the cop sound. I get the clicking sound less than the cop sound, but more than the feedback. Is this just the way it sounds, or is there something I can do to fix this?
And part of the overtone knob seems to be broken now. It's the half of the pole thing that the knob goes on. I took a picture here:

Do you know where I can get a replacement?
Thanks! |

Not sure about the sound you are getting, but here is some info on the "knob" (in reality the "pot" - short for "potentiometer").
The overtone pot is non-standard unfortunately.
What you need is a: - 9mm form factor - split shaft - 10k - "G" taper
You could try Roland - call them up and ask for parts.
An OK equivalent would be an "A" taper... but the only place I've ever seen these is a company called Jaycar in Australia: catalogue RP8610 at www.jaycar.com.au
You can also get "A" taper pots at smallbear, but they aren't split shaft and the knob won't fit: http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=693 (the part is "10k audio")
