I finally got a FZ-2 the other week, and I like it much more than the FZ-3. the HI and LO tone controls of the FZ-2 make it much more versatile, and even though the manual doesn't say the FZ-2 can/should be used with a bass (unlike the FZ-3's manual), the FZ-2 sounds frickin' FANTASTIC with a bass. my bass amp is a GK 800RB -- very clean and transparent (lack of) tone, even with the boost dialed up to a nice growl -- and the FZ-2 set on Fuzz I, with Gain turned down all the way, gave me a sound pretty close to that great Ampeg SVT overdriven bass tone (think Kim Gordon's sound on Sonic Youth's Dirty album). Fuzz II gives me a distorto-bass sound not unlike Jerry Only's bass fuzztone sound on early Misfits recordings....
the only nitpick I have is that the FZ-2 seems to attenuate the lower frequencies somewhat, which makes it maybe not as suitable for bass guitar. it'd be nice to have a 'blend' pot (like the ODB-3) so that the direct signal could be combined with the fuzztone, but that's a mod out of my league.... |

| I've found that the FZ-2 can get pretty close to Pete Steele from Type O Negative's distorted sound. |

| I know that the FZ-3 is all discrete parts, I was wondering how much of the FZ-2 is discrete and if either actually contains germanium transistors. |

| I beleve the FZ-2 is an ic based fuzz. But don't quote me on that. Stinkfoot would know for sure. |

| I think the OD-2 and the FZ-3 are the only pedals that doesn't contain any integrated circuits. |

Nope it does not seem to be the case, when in boost mode the only controls which function are the bass, treble and the gain one.
When you are in boost mode, you already have a boost in your treble, even with the treble knob turned down, turn it up a little to add some more.
The boost mode can give you clean boost, or you can add some dirt by turning up the gain.
tip: Put the FZ-2 infront of another Distortion-or Overdrive to add some more bass, or treble to the other pedal. Just use the boost mode on the FZ-2, be modest with gain, and add treble and bass to your own taste. |

I use a fz3 in my set up,i use it mostly for a big fat sound with the od2 for soloing.. for crunch sounds i have an old ds1 i use with the distortion about 50%... i had thought of taking it off the pedalboard but it doesn't take up much room and sometimes i like that effect of thinking your speakers are going to pop out of your amp...!!!! it has a serious amount of gain on tap and it is a lot louder the most of the other boss distortions/overdrives perfect for pushing the od2 for gilmouresque tones... .. |
