okay I just found this in the mail
silver screw, clear switch & momentary LED

paid 150
so far so awesome.
BUT - the thing doesn't work right.
I figure I just get it repaired and still have a good deal.
now my questions
a) does anyone know a good place for things like that in germany? b) should I ask the seller (since he said it's fully working) for a refund..? I guess I won't get an SP-1 in this condition for 150 again. c) do you have any idea what might be wrong
regarding c) the pots don't just crackle slightly as you would expect from a pedal built in july 1979 they pop... and loudly at that when turned.... and when turned again the whole thing starts to become a distortion unit.
cheers, mullster

it's only the spectrum knob though and it only starts at 11 o'clock and counter clockwise.
oh and either this text is incorrect "The balance knob sets the peak within the range." or my balance knob is wrong as well.. I doubt it though...
Balance pretty much implies that it's a mix knob rather than gain for the EQ. |

Thanks for the link Chris,
it seems to work better the more I play with it.... the crackle at 11 o'clock is still scarry as hell but the rest works fine... :O) |

Hi MullyFX
Very nice, even if you do have to do some minor repairs. maybe try some good quality spray, pot cleaner & lube for get the crackle out of the offending pot.
You might want to even replace it.

Hi MullyFX,
Congrats to your SP-1, mine still not arrived, perhaps in the next few years... Hope your problem disappear soon!
Just a request, would you please so kind to make some internal pics and upload them into "Internal pictures of Boss & Other pedals" thread?
Thank is advance!
cheers |

Furthering the theory about aged caps sometimes they just need 'warming up' |

I bought a non-working SP-1 some years ago, cheap. I sent it to a person who is known to do good pedal-repairs here in Sweden. The problem was a bad solder-joint. But if I would guess on the SP-1 in this topic I would say one (or more) bad electrolytes. Check them with a magnifying glass, is there sign of ageing, convex were the treads are coming out, white dust on the end/s??
