A hot chick with a guitar, namely Orianthi, how could I forget about her?

You may not like South Australia (where I'm from) Franzoni, it's the only Australian state that never had convicts... only free settlers. We have a very German/English Heritage but virtually no Irish...
now wait a minute, are you saying you're virtually irish free because the state wasn't settled by cons???
That's correct... Free settlers were almost exclusively English or German here. That's not to say there were no Irish settlers, and since the end of WWII we've definitely received a lot of migrants from different backgrounds (which I believe to be a good thing), including Irish. At the time of colonisation of Australia, I believe a fair bit of unfair persecution was being bestowed upon the Irish by the English, which inevitably resulted in Convict transportation to the Australian colonies (except of course South Australia). I have no idea what percentage of convicts were Irish... I'd hazard a guess that the majority were actually of English decent anyway...
The fact is that there were less Irish here per capita than the other states due to the fact that convicts were not transported here.
To answer the question that I think you are really asking: No I don't think all Irish people are crooks .... I'm just stating some sad historical facts that are attached to my Nation's past |

A lot of people from Ireland and Britian were transported for things as trivial a taking a loaf of bread or a sheep to feed a family because of starvation also some famous figures from our history who rebelled against the crown were transported if they were lucky..!..there was the famous story of the 'Catalpa' rescue in 1876 when a ship was sailed from Massachusetts to Western Australia to help some men escape.....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catalpa_rescue
Some of our aussie memebers might already be familiar with the story... |
