Just found this when I was doing maintenance on my EH-2. From a pedal value perspective, do you think I should cut the extra sponge off, or leave it?

Well of course if you take it out the pedal will no longer be stock.

BUT you could carefully remove one sponge and sell it on ebay as an original replacement BOSS sponge - for those pedals without. You could even say RARE! EH-2 Sponge! Original!

Does it affect the on/off functionality of the pedal?
I expect it might be so soft that there's no difference.

Didn't even realise from a functional perspective - just visually.

if you use the pedal and it works fine with it i would leave it.BUt in mass manufacturing. it is quite odd and rare with all the quality control out there so it leaves the pedal to be more valuable then most pedals. So i would leave it

definately leave it. manufacturing defects are awesome. i recently got an LP that had the center sticker double stamped.. the top one was off center and actually covered the last track making it unplayable but i just kept it on and hung it on the wall haha.

plus the EH-2 is a thing of beauty

Leave it. I like the EH-2 a lot, and it is definitely a sponge worthy pedal (Seinfeld reference...)
