Today, a friend from work gave me an original Pignose 7-100 portable 5W amp that supposedly doesn't work but it looks in great shape! I'm sure it can fixed so it comes at the right time.. I wanted to buy an Orange 1W Micro Crush anyway. Maybe one can be for my son's Christmas present.
There's a purple wire that has come loose but I'll clean her up & look it over good tonight when I get home. I would think there would be a schematic in the wild for this thing but I'm coming up short. Any help?
Additionally, if I wanted to upgrade the speaker... what is a better efficiency rating: higher or lower dB(SPL)? |

Higher SPL = greater efficiency. Sometimes at the expense of tone, but not always...
Be careful to ensure that the specs you look at are comparing apples with apples. Both SPL's should be quoted at the same incoming wattage/frequency/distance (often 1W, measured at 1m on-axis, at 1kHz)

Hi DeFrag.
I have a 7-100, but there are a few different versions. Good luck finding a Sch. I look every few months, but can only find the 40W tube version. Please let me know if you have better luck.
The really old 7-100's had Germanium transistors.
Upload pics of the area where you thing the wire came off. I am happy to Disassemble mine to help you out. Unfortunately my Canon Ixus 400 camera, is off for the second time in a month getting repaired Hopefully.
When you get her going, a neat old timers trick, is to put it into a plastic car washing/houshold 9litre bucket, it acts as a resonant chamber & baffle. And Surprisingly, it works well.
I have heard, that Frank Zappa recorded his last few albums, with just a cranked Pignone & a Shure SM57 mic.
Mine gets used as the utility test bench amp. Little bugger runs off a few AAA's for too long to believe.
There are a couple of good web sites that talk about this little workhorse amp.
Upload some pics, anyway, they are sort of cute to look at (In a tech way)....
Try running one into a 4x12 cab - any brand, you won't get the off your face.

| They do have a funky sound, but are very hard to tame humbuck guitars. I usually use a compressor for this job and even then, it is still not easy. |

Hi DeFrag
Any new news on your new little baby? I almost forgot about it.
I'm still willing to take some reference pics, for you of my one, now that the camera is back.
Like I have mentioned before, I use mine as my Test/bench amp.
Regards Dr. Bob |

Life is hectic right now but I have 2.5 weeks holiday at the end of Dec. The 1st week is for family, so that leaves the 2nd for me!
I'll get both the LPB-1 & Pig threads at that time.
Tks Bob for your continued interest in helping me out. I REALLY am anxious to get the Pig flying again!
Regular programming shall resume shortly, please stand by.. heh |
