from readin the manuals a bit and from peoples own setting i've seen that a lot a pedals can have a dual use with maxing out or zeroing out one or more of the dials.

e.g. zeroing out the dials on a BF-2 yields a delay-like doubling tone (allegedly)

does anybody do this or know of other circumstances?.

i know when u max out the controls of a PH-3 and use dist you get a nice sound like a pot of pasta coming to the boil if you set the mode to rise/fall (if you can't hear it just roll back the rate a teeny bit)

maxing the depth and zeroing out the res on the PH-2 appantly gives a fixed wah sound.

I know with the HM-2 when I zeroed all the controls then just raised Level a little bit I got a nice sound. Much like valve amp distortion. In fact it's the only setting I used on this pedal, I found it too extreme any other way - but that's my fault for buying the wrong tool for the job.

Also the CE-3 Chorus did an unusual effect (when maxed out I think) - sort of a tremolo effect, I used to think of it as a 'French Accordion' sound if that makes sense to anyone. I'm hoping to get another BF-2 soon, I did get some nice sounds out of that, though I can't recall now whether there were good ones at zero/max.

The HF-2 with the manual and depth at zero and rate and res at max (or vice versa) gets this really weird metallic sound that feeds back when you strum chords. its called 'cone filtering' or some such term, cool anyway.

I found that with the HM-2, on zero, it's an OD-1 basically. Jerry Garcia dumped his OD-1 for the HM-2..FACT. Although I love the HM-2 on any setting to be honest, not that its vastly versatile, but its really nice.

Jerry Garcia with an OD-1 and HM-2. Did he use any other Boss pedals?

With regards to maxing controls... If you max the repeats on many analog and older digital delays, you get self oscillation. While the pedal is self oscillating, try adjusting the delay time and you get some pretty wild pitch shifting effects.
