I just bought a 1986 MIJ DS-1 (I didn't even want one, but the 'Bossness' if it made me make a decision I wouldn't normally have made) Anyway, it arrived today and it doesn't work. Also the bottomplate screws are small silver screws (not like the ones on any boss pedal I've seen) so I emailed the guy, and after about 10 email rants between us, he basically told me I didnt know what I was talking about and the silver screws were on old boss pedals (like the silver thumbscrew). Is there any truth to this, or is it bull P.S. Obviously It's broken, but a few people like to buy them for repairs or whatever? I bought it for $70 delivered. Would anyone pay $50 delivered for it?

i just checked various pedals through the 70, 80s and 90s and they all have black screws. the only difference i noticed is that the older pedals had screws that are slightly larger than the new pedal screws. but theyre all black

to me it sounds like this guy that sold you the DS-1 doesnt know much about collecting and thinks that silver screw means the 4 screws on the bottom of the pedal are silver.

just put it this way. he would be the guy to have the following Ebay auction title

"BOSS AW-3. vintage, mint in box, MIJ, Silver screw(s)"

I'm glad someone has confirmed I'm not a complete Boss Noob. The funny thing is he had a right go at me and claimed I knew nothing, even when I linked him to 2 sites (including BossArea) showing I was right.

You're perfectly right. The bottom plate screws has always been black. Different head sizes has been used and for a while the screws had washers but they've never been silver coloured. There's an old thread here somewhere about whether it's possible to get hold of replacement screws.
