If a beginning guitarist ask you for an advice witch Boss overdrive/distortion, chorus and delay to buy (at a low price) that is still available (not vintage) what would you suggest?
I would say BD-2, CH-1 and DD-3. Putting up a little more money I would advice DD-6.

It depends what sort of music the guy is into. My distortion advise to someone listening to Django would be different from my advise to someone listening to Porcupine Tree.
In general I think I would recommend MT-2, CE-5 and DD-3.

I would buy the CE5 and DD6 based on the reviews from this forum (i will be buying them next month!)

I read that the BD-2 is both a rock and blues pedal (I am buying this next month as well!)

The MT-2 has more gain, I dont what the tone is like though?

Dont forget for flexibility you can run an overdrive pedal into a distortion pedal pedal. So maybe buy the MT-2 now and buy the OD-3 later for boosting for leads etc.

considering you dont know his exact tastes, i would say a DS-1, a CE-5, and a DD-3.

I would say the same. Distortion, chorus, delay, you just can't be wrong.

My Two Cents:

Distortion: MT-2 (if you want leaded) DS-1 (if you want unleaded)

Chorus: CH-1

Delay: DD-3

A note on the distortion pedals:

Check out Robert Keeley modded versions of the MT-2 or DS-1 to see all these pedals could be some day if you decide you like them.

What is the tone like for the new versions of the DS-1? Are they versatile? I see that they are v cheap (35) .

My OD-3 was the BEST pedal i have ever bought, Is the quality of the DS-1 as good? (When i say as good... i mean, are the tones available actualy usable as a stock pedal? If it needs to be modded then I will be buying the BD-2)

Sorry for hi-jacking thread

for all around most used FX, I'd say a CS-3, an SD-1, and a DD-3... or a CH-1, DD-3, and SD-1 ... I can live without a chorus but some songs just need a compressor, plus you can use it to boos whatever overdrive/distorion pedal you have..

I'd say buy a Zoom multi something.. cheap and lots of effects.

But as for BOSS: OD-3, DD-3, CE-3 (although its not manufactured anymore it can still be had for cheap sometimes).. 3 pedals with the number 3 - get it?

SD-1, CH-1, and DD-3. But, of course I'd choose the expensive (no longer available) vintage eBay route with a MIJ SD-1, a CE-2 and a DM-2

Well I would suggest something like a SD-1, CE-5 and DD-3.

If they had a bit more money I would say BD-2, CE-5 and DD-6.

DS-1 OR BD-2 AND DD3 - or DD-6. I would REPLACE the CH-1 with either the PH-3 or BF-3 (although PH and BF are sterile sounding) you get a lot of bang for the buck and prices are getting really cheap for the PH-3 now.

DS-1s can be had for $25.00
DD-3 can be had for $75.00
PH-3 can be had for $60.00.

BD-2 would likely be around $50
DD-6 at least $100
BF-3 at least $65.

BOSS always knows best. At L&M they are selling a BCB-30 with a TU-2 and a DS-1 for $215.00. Talk aboutstrongly suggestion you pickup the third pedal before you leave the store!
