so, which one is best?
both are available at a local pawn shop (they have 3 DF-2s) and I'm thinkig about picking up one of them... I've tested the DF-2 and I liked the noisy feedback. never used a PW-2, but I heard it's a powerful overdrive so it's quite what I'm looking for. I'm trading in my generic OD.
I left my '82 MIJ DS-1 there and I'm thinking about getting it back. I miss it... |

if it was me, i would buy them all and sell the two extra DF-2s.
however, between the two i prefer the PW-2. the DF-2s feedback function is very neat, but the distortion doesnt quite do it for me. plus it is one of those "quiet" pedals where the level has to be maxed just to match my other Boss distortions set halfway. (at least mine is like that anyway) but to each his own. good luck with your choice  |

PW-2 for me 
It depends on what you're looking for. The PW-2 is heavy, precise, powerful. The DF-2 is more DS-1-like, which I would say is all the opposite of what I just qualified the PW-2...  The DF-2 is too "light". |

DF-2 is noisy. But it sounds more authentic than the more processed sounds of the MT series...IMO.
I always though the PW-2 was used as a booster.

that's a great idea, too bad I don't have the money for that...
I just called the shop and they sold the PW-2. I guess it's the DF-2 or nothing now. I liked the feedback, but I wanted a more 'overdriven' distortion... |

| If you want an overdrive sound, then neither one is right for you. The PW-2 is actually quite harsh sounding in as much as it's like a loud crunching distortion that isn't very musical in my opinion. Good if you want it to sound more trashy. The DF-2 is indeed similar to the DS-1 type of distortion. Very "fizzy" sounding to me. It's more of a novelty pedal to me. For a good overdrive, I'd go with an early OD-1 or a MIJ SD-1. If money is an issue, I'd seek out a used BD-2 and use a lower gain setting on it. |

| The DF-2 is a.. strange distortion.. too much to get the blues sound and too less to play metal. Maybe it's good for pop/rock? I don't really know, a friend use my pedal since 2 months ago.. |

I find I don't use my MIT DS-1 much and tend to favour the DF-2 over it.
I even quite like the feedback as long as you can hide the sudden stopping of the feedback by playing something as soon as you release the pedal. A big chunky powerchord works well!
I'm still to really get a decent sound out of my PW-2 - mainly for grungier stuff I guess |

| I just wondered, aren't capable of check that out now.. But can you use the NF-1 to fade of the signal? If it's turned of, and then turn it on.. Does it see the feedback function as noise? |

THE NF-1 will not at all help, it will cut off ALL sound, once it reaches a certain volume, (will not fade). |
