NS-2 is one of my most used pedals, I think its a very good noise-supressor. And I have heard many others of the same opinion. In recording I cant live without it as a stratplayer. But what about NS-1? Is this a good noise-supressor as well? How does it differ from NS-2? Or just one for the collecting-shelf? |

I assume you meant the NF-1. The NF-1 just cuts everything as soon as the level goes under the threshold value. The NS-2 appears to have some sort of intelligence about the way it works which makes it a lot better.
Often when I come across an old NF-1 it is in mint condition. I think a lot of the pedals sold has spent the years in the box. To me it's just there to complete the collection.

| I have an NF1 that is beaten to hell. It was that way when I bought it, but if it weren't, it certainly would not be now. I have used it twice and probably won't use it again. Like bossarea noted, it cuts off the noise AND your signal very abrubptly. That could be cool in some cases as a gate effect - well it is after all a noise gate, but from what I've read about the NS2, that's the pedal to go with of the two. I haven't gotten around to picking one up myself, but that's mainly due to lack of space on my board. |

The NF-1 is a good noise gate. You are right that it cuts everything off abruptly, but I think that its really good for Palm muting, and starty stopy stuff. I put it After my phaser, but before my chorus and delays. That way the delay doesn't get cut off. The NS-2 is great and I wish I could afford one, but for what I need right now the NF-1 is good enough. |
