At the moment I can think of two brands which do all what boss have ever done and still does.
The two are Ibanez and DOD.
True, as mentioned before by many of you, Boss is very reliable, available in any part of the world and their design is unique, and they stick to their formula in terms of their design.
I think the fact that Boss pedals are so readily available anywhere in the world does have a lot to do with their popularity, although today, with the help of internet and Ebay ect., I believe there is serious competition from other brands.
Today you can have anything you want really, it is just a matter of time and money whereas in the past it was a lot harder to get hold of[ and find info about] other brands.
People who do not like Bosspedals often complain about them "being too clean" I do think that most of those people do not have that much experience with Bosspedals in general, although I can see their point, and probably many of you here can.
Once you get to know a few more of the older pedals and the newer ones you can see what some folks mean with them "being too clean".
On the other hand most people would agree that Boss does give a lot of bang for your buck, okay their Flangers [fill in any type really] may not sound that amazing, they also do not sound bad, perhaps just average. Again this relates to what one knows, so the more Flangers [or whatever kind of effect] you know, the better you can compare and see their strengths and weaknesses. All very obvious eh..............??!!
Oh for all of you who love the LS2 [including myself] I only know one better way: A small mixer including a Pancontrol and a EffectLoop. One can buy one of these for about the same price as an LS2 but is just a tat more flexable.
All of the Boss RV pedals do sound quite unique too, but let me just stop here before I go into a breakdown of each individual pedal. |
