Not much information available I'm afraid. It was introduced 2000 or 2001 and is still in use today. |

| In any case, I really like the sound of that Mitusbishi chip. Can anyone else pop open their brand new DS-1 and look at their OpAmp chip? I'm curious to know if they've converted to the JRC on all production DS-1's now. |

That's surprising. Looks like they've changed the opamp once again. The newest DS-1 I've got is from Sep 03 (LR46514) and it's got the 5223. Do you mind giving me the serial numbers of yours? |

| The S/N for this DS-1 is DU48674. I bought it new from Musicians Friend about 2 months ago. |

That really is a brand new 06 pedal. I spent ages finding a DS-1 with the BA728 chip in it and now it looks like I'll have to get yet another DS-1. It will be my 7th
Have you got the number of your 90s version as well and is it silver label? I'm trying to figure out when the change happened and whether it coincided with the change from black to silver label (ACA to PSA change). The latest black label serial I have is relinquish69's Oct 93 pedal (HF59571). The earliest silver label I've seen is from Jan 95 (JH06408) but that was an Ebay ad so I don't know the which opamp it had. My July 96 (MI80431) has the 728-chip so the change must have happened somewhere in between those dates. |

I'll get that S/N but first I need to get the velcro off the pedal! Anyone have any recommendations for getting it off w/o removing the sticker? I think we've discussed this before in other threads. I'm wanting to say I got this one in about '97 or so. We'll see... |

Hi diggum12 Try warming up the Velcro a bit at a time with a hairdryer & VERY slowly, remove the Velcro. Keep reheating the section of Velcro just behind the removed section.
It works with varying results, depends very much on the type of glue, that was on the Velcro, or used to stick down the velcro.
Most of these glues are Contact Type Adhesives, and most respond to heat by becoming tacky & loosing adhesion.
Use spirits, like Metho, on cotton buds to remove the remaining glue (Methylated Spirits, also know as White Lightning... ) Don't over soak the cotton-ear buds, as some of the spirit may get under the actual Boss label.
Remember WORK VERY S-L-O-W-L-Y
Goooooood Luck |

So there's a little more to this story. Ladies and gentlemen: You are no longer playing the same DS-1's! There's a new resistor on the PCB. Layout was slightly modified to fit the resistor. It's R40 on pin 8 of the JRC OpAmp. The PCB has a slightly different revision number. It looks like we're up to #4 now.
The pedal will not work if you jump that resistor. Of course, I tried. |

Just for kicks here's a pic of the PCB from my May '06 manufactured (via the serial number dater) DS-1. It has the Keeley Ultra mod as well.

| Nice pic hudpucker! You can clearly see R40 on the top of the pic directly below R1. I've opened up about 6 of these DS-1's and it looks like this PCB revision started about 2-3 years ago. Some are with the Mitsubishi and some are with the JRC. What I've done on a couple of these is just remove R40 completely. Gives it a warmer less harsh sound. |

To BossArea ....Why quote: I spent ages finding a DS-1 with the BA728 chip in it
Is it for you the "best" IC for DS-1 ??? ( I know this is relative but I wanna know your opinion about that)
Im asking because recently I bought a DS-1 ( S/N NR88964) with D1 burned ( it seems to be the only problem, I didn fix yet )and I wanna mod it, but I dont wanna make a sacrilege !!! |

No, I spent ages searching for one because I wanted to know if it was better or worse than the original. My favorite is still the original TA7136AP. |

Just wondering... do we have any kind of definitive list of direct comparisons between the audio qualities of different op-amps in certain pedals? I know it's pretty subjective, but it would be interesting reading and a good reference point for potential purchases/mods. |
