Have done tests with the suggestions which people mentioned.
Used a constant testtone, powered my older ACA pedals with batteries, used a Pre-1997 ACA adaptor, used a post 1997 adaptor and did the daisy-chain idea using a PSA adaptor.
Here is what I discovered:
The post 1997 is as good as a battery, no differences in sound whatsoever.
The daisychain idea is the same, as good as a batterypowered pedal.
The Pre 1997 ACA, this puts more power in your pedal, and the overal sound is a bit better.
How much better? Will list some pedals and tell you what happened when I used the Pre-1997 ACA.
HM-2: Could hear a different harmonic
VB-2: Rounder edges on the vibrato sound. Think of a signal wave, and the curves, well these seem to be a bit rounder, fuller if you like, when I used the older ACA.
TW-1: Fuller in sound, brighter.
FT-2: Same as the TW-1 [you would expect this eh?]
Okay, overal conclusion is that the older ACA gives more power to your pedal. Even when I tried using a universal powersupply and putting its output at 12 volts I did not get the same results as with the older ACA.
Using the daisychain-idea, with this it seems that your pedals loose power anyway, perhaps in a very minimal way as they would still function as well as when powered by batteries, but still there is a difference.
You have to remember here that I used "Lab.conditions" When you mainly perform I would just go for the daisychain-idea, as your pedals still sound fine. When you do mainly recording, you may want to start looking for an older ACA pedal.
If any of you have any Roland keyboards bought before 1992 [or nearabout] you could use the powersupply that came with the keyboard to power you pedals. I tried this last night, using the same "Lab conditions" and found no difference in sound between those adaptors and the older ACA adaptor.

Hello,
I just want to get this straight. I have a Onespot...
I also have a TU-2, a PS-3, a DD-20, a dd-3 and a DM-3. In the daisy chain, does it matter where I put the DM-3?
Does it have to be after a PSA pedal or can it be first? |

| It shouldn't matter where in the chain it's placed. |

i don't mean to flog a dead horse here but..... some people swear that there is a difference with the older aca adapter to the sound of the pedals,i have three on my board (aca type)cs3,od2 and my ds1 ..now they work perfectly fine in a daisy chain with my other pedals off a psa adapter, but like visserman it has been on my mind to try the the older aca adapter...if your reading this visserman when you say a universal power supply do you mean one fron radio shack/maplins etc...?and was it unregulated...?and does anyone know for sure if the old boss supplies were 12 or 14 volts...?.....thanks |
