hello all, most of the ds-1 mods here talk about changing d4 or d5 with a led or adding a led to d4 or d5. the effect seems to be lesser distortion, more volume which is good for most. however, i noticed that the guitar "feels stiff" and not pinch harmonics are harder to make because of the gain loss. however, i think i may have overcome this by adding another stock diode in4148 to compensate. maybe its just my ears but heres what i did:
d4= stock; d5=in4148>red LED>in4148.
anny comments?

| i think distortion is a matter of taste i know people that like it all the way up. i choose my distortion level to be about 50%, I am more interested in coloring the tone not making mush |

By having 3 diodes in place of D5 you have increased the clipping threshold for positive voltages even further to ~ 0.6+1.8+0.6 = 3V,
Theoretically, this means even less distortion / pinch harmonics because less signal is clipped.
It is worth double checking the diode polarities and that nothing is shorted.

i have noiticed the same thing , thats why i posted some questions about how to get the gain back and also the sustain , it is also important for us players who do alot of lead work etc. i wonder what the story is about the ds1 feeling "STIFF"? |
