Was at the gym last night, and "Shattered" came on. It's always perplexed me how Keith Richards got that rhythm tone. Anyone have any insight...?
I did some online searching and learned about the open G tuning with the low E string removed, etc., but it sounds to me like there's something else going on in this particular song, some sort of modulation to the sound.
keith don't use no pedals.. i'm not familar with the song but if it has a bit of phasing,it's probably a leslie or vibratone speaker.......he also liked to overload the input on an old tape recorder when recording for the 'dry' quality of the sound as he put it in an interview i read with him a while back.....richie blackmore used one as well with deep purple as a pre amp before his 200 watt marshall major.....
Some Girls is a special in the Stones recordingcareer. The overal guitarsound is fabulous on this one.
I think it is in the engineering really. If they have used pedals it will be very simple ones. Keith and Ron did use some Flangers and Phasers, but they used them in such a way they you cannot really tell.
I will do some close listening to the album and get back when I have a better idea.
I do know the sound you are talking about, but my guess it is in the mixing and how they did some of the overdubs. Ron's solo on Shattered does have an amazing sound, very bright. Anyway, will do some research................
