Hey Laurie !
Thanks for your prompt reply,I'll keep trying to find a PCB layout as I am not an expert in drawing. The old PCB was totally ruined when the previous owner (poorly) tried to mod the pedal. I would love to resurrect it as it is otherwise brand new. |

Hi there !
I've no luck so far in finding a PCB layout,so as last resort I decided to solder point to point the PCB where the traces were burnt.
Laurie's link was put to use and photos were a huge help. Thanks ! or should I better say
Very time consuming but I learned a few things along the way.

Thanks a lot Moonmarckus !
I should have taken pictures while doing the repair...
I didn't think it could be of any interest to anybody out there,it proves I was wrong.
The previous owner tried to modify the pedal with a Monte Allums Opto mod but was lacking experience and/or had an inadequate soldering iron.
The traces for and around the IC2 inline Opamp PCB were burned badly and the traces cut.
This is what it looked like:

The Burr Brown Opamp and the adaptor were no use as they had been overheated.
So my first thought was to change the Pcb if I could find the layout out there and then replace the caps and resistors with higher quality components.
I 've had no luck so far so I decided to solder the IC and resistors point to point to the pcb.
Not exactly the nicest work you'll ever meet but functional.
I'll take some photos of the ending result this weekend when I get it back.

Hi bassinyourface
And I thought the recent fires here in Australia, & near my home were bad.
It still looks very repairable, just clean up, & de-flux the area a lot, before you start repairing her.
We're all wishing you good luck.

Hey thanks Laurie & Dr Bob !
I guess that's what they call a Hot mod
By the way Dr Bob I read somewhere in the forum that you also were a big fan of Ibanez soundtank series.I need the schematic for a CP-5 compressor,do you know where I could possibly find one ?
Thanks a lot for your help. |

Hi bassinyourface (BIYF)
What mods or repairs are you going to do to your CP5? (There's no dash on Ibanez gear). They are such nice sounding compressors as they are.
From what I can tell the CP5 and the CP10 are identical. except for the metal case in the 10 series.
The CP10 sch. can be found here: http://www.freeinfosociety.com/electronics/schempage.php?cat=1
They use the older SIP VCA's

Thanks Dr Bob ! Are you sure both pedals share the same pcb ?
You are right it's a nice little compressor. I wouldn't want to hurt a fan and purist by modding the pedal too heavily I just want to fine tune the input and output capacitors for better bass response.

Hi bassinyourface
NO - the CP5 & CP10 don't share the same PCB. They are different form-factors. The CP10 has a seperate PCB for the pots. Where with the CP5, all the components, including the pots are mounted on the one PCB.
They do share the same circuit, there might be a slight update between the DC in section, but nothing to worry about.
I guess you are mostly just going to change the coupling capacitors in the signal path (in-out-inter stage)?
I have considered re-housing my CP5 into a Hammond diecast box, with true bypass & normal 16mm or 24mm Alpha or CTS pots.
I have a small collection of compressors (a guy's gotta have a hobby ) And the CP5 rates pretty high, in the pedals part of the collection.
Good luck with your mods.
Regards Dr. Bob

Thanks Dr Bob !
The schematic looks similar ( I didn't check all the components)
The components don't share the same name:input cap is c6 for the CP5 and c1 for the CP10. So I had better try to figure out by myself what goes where.
I tried different values for the C6 input cap only to go back to the stock value of 0.047uF but I preferred a Wima cap instead.
Along the way i changed the diodes for 1n34's. I also changed C13 to 4.7 uF and R28 to 15 kOhm
These changes opened up the sound a good bit without overly altering the original character of the pedal

Hi bassinyourface
Nice work. That is a very clean looking CP5.
The Blue LED gives it a bit of class.
