Hi !
I was given recently a damaged SYB-3.

I think it suffered from a wrong polarity.
The led lights up but the sound comes out like a scratchy pot although pots seem OK.

My question is:
Is the input diode (D1) possibly dead ?

If anybody has any clue, feel free to share as the circuit is mostly SMC and my knowledge pretty limited

As a first try,i will check diodes and caps, hoping I get lucky

And,by the way, does anybody know if the D1 diodes are the same value in all the Boss pedals ?

Thanks !

Hi bassinyourface! There is no schematic for this pedal available.

If the diode was dead, the pedal would either not work at all (diode short circuit) or work with no issues (diode open circuit).

The "scratchiness" could be any number of things in this pedal - it is a quite complex beast...

Hey Laurie !

This beast is too complex for me,I was hoping it would be simple...

You are right,it can't be the diode 'cause there is voltage at different points on the board (does this make sense ? ) and ICs seem intact as far as I can tell.

By seing the list of pedals you rescued, you are an expert in those digital pedals.

Do you by chance have any clue ?

I'm sorry bassinyourface. I don't have any experience with this pedal at all (I've never seen a broken one).

Without the schematic, we are flying blind I'm afraid.

The only thing that I can suggest is posting some crisp photos of the front and back of the board. Maybe we will see something...

The SYB-3 is digital, and the SYB-5 being a later model it should be too in my opinion.

J'espre avoir rpondu ta question.

Oui merci
First I thought the SYB-3 was analog and the others were digital
