I have recently been trying Boss pedals. I have a DM-2,DD-2,TU-2. I use these two delays while my Fulltone TTE sits on the shelf. I briefly had a CE-2 that I A/B tested with a Choralflange and I am blown away by the warmth and TONE of this pedal(CE-2). I can turn both knobs all the way to minimum effect and it still makes my tone round and warm. Here there be magic! The CE-2 is the chorus I have always wanted unfortunately I had to send it back because the depth pot was very hard to turn. I have spent A LOT of $$ on pedals and it's funny that these boss pedals are comparatively cheap but audibly superior! I am using a Fender Strat w/ Lollars Into a 67 Vibrolux Reverb with more Boss pedals nudging the boutique stuff out presently. I am on the hunt for a good CE-2 and a good flanger. Is the BF-2 metallic sounding or is it warm? So far so good with Boss!

By the time I bring all my pedals together, from home to the dorm (or vice versa), I'll have pretty much something similar. It'll be my guitar into a TU-2 Tuner, OD/Compression pedal (Route 66), Wah, Whammy, TR-2 Tremolo (maybe), BF-2 Flanger, PS-2 Pitch Shifter/Delay.

So yeah, all in all, out of 7 pedals 4 of them are Boss. I did a similar search where I would look for the pedals with "the tone", which meant I sold my old Boss pedals, only to buy them back again, only to resell them for other "the tone" pedals, and now I'm pretty much settling on what Boss and non-boss pedals I've gathered together at this point as "my tone". Who cares about the "Boss" label or whatever other people think about it or even if my pedals ain't booteeq or custom...I get the sound I want.

Cool discussion.

About the BF-2, I had a later 80's MIJ and it was warm; I had a early MIJ with "1" series serial number and it was numbingly organic and warm like toast with melted butter.

The DD-2 - try a few out, they do sound different based on when made ...

A surprising find today - I recieved an unused LIMITER - and what a fabulous "brightener" compressor WITHOUT THE SPUNGY COMPRESSION SOUNDS - if you have a good gibson that sustains forever, this pedal reels in your dynamic just a bit, so that your sustain feels like it rings longer but without as much volumen change, without the increasing hiss a compressor typically does. Fabulous.

Starr36, Thanks for the bird dog on the limiter. I'll give it a shot. I have a BF-2 & a CE-2 silver screw on the way. It's 80 degrees in Houston TX today, it be chilly up there in Canadia?

I can really understand the whole 'Boss is taking over my pedalboard' thing. Physically, I love the design (recessed knobs, rugged switching...), and of course, the tone of most is to die for. Currently, I've got 6 pedals on my board, and 4 of them are Boss. The line looks like this: SD-1,DS-1,Proco Rat,CE-20,DD-3,Aphex 1403.

A very simple yet strange assortment, though as PKB puts it, "Who cares about the "Boss" label or whatever other people think about it or even if my pedals ain't booteeq or custom...I get the sound I want."

Well put. Now I just need to find someplace to play with this nice board, instead of letting it sit here rusting...

Thanks for quote!

If you want a nice no-nonsense kind of pedalboard that won't exactly break the bank check out this:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Guitar/Effects?sku=155510

The "Large Diamond Plate" CoreOne pedalboard is 24x12, which should be just enough room for all your pedals in a straight line. That or you can stack four in a corner, add a wah, and stick the other two on the other other side of wah. I own one and if I had the chance I'd endorse it! I'm really looking to get the one with the Mic stand in it because it's about 2 inches longer and of course (and the Whammy takes up a lot of real estate), has a hole/lock for an angled mic stand (that's included!). I'm not sure how big the Aphex is though so I could be wrong about the dimensions for fitting your stuff in there.

Last night I went to Guitar Center and bought an SD-1 and a BD-2. I put them both in line with my TS-808. I am just floored by the SD-1. It has a KILLER TONE, it is different than my 808 but not in a bad way, more open sounding. I peeked under the hood and found the jrc op amp that we all know about. My point here brethren is I paid $280 on Ebay for my 808 and less than $100 for the SD-1. Just so yall don't think that I work for Boss I thought the BD-2 was harsh and jagged sounding(it's going back). Also for any of yall that think I'm gloating over the weather being nice here (Houston)as opposed to Canada, we only get about 30 days a year that are nice with out the AC running full bore. The rest are 98 degrees with 80% humidity. Can you say mold spore. Until next time... VIVA LA BOSS!

well you can do your own pedalboard for almost nothing. Mine costed me about $ 30, it's just a piece of wood, it will fit 8 BOSS pedals in two rows, plus it has extra space so I don't have to disconnect the input and output pedals from my pedal chain every time I use it.
I put velcro under the pedals and in the wood (painted matte black) and that's it.
I went to a car cover factory and they made me a bag for carrying pedalboard. My friends call it "the pizza" because it looks like a pizza bag LOL...
try it and it's more fun than just buying an already made pedalboard...

Well my BF-2 came in and I have a question for those in the know. It is supposed to be a silver screw model and it has the silver screw but the serial # is 336300. The Boss Book says on page 55 that the silver screw cut off was near #10000. It sounds warm & creamy but I'm hoping I did't get silver screwed. What do you fellers think about that? It also has the no hole battery compartment and the type 2 battery clip. I got on ebay from ebay screen name cobflake. It's going back, I'll try not to be too much of a mallet head from now on.

That sounds like a replacement screw to me.
I'm not 100% sure yet but it looks like the screw change happened on or close to serial 9800.

I have invested mucho $ into my pedals and I don't like putting velcro on the bottom and gunking them up, pulling off stickers etc.. I have come up with a devise that I would like to show yall how to build that attaches to your Boss or Ibanez pedals and keeps this from happening and doesn't get in the way. It holds the pedal in place real good. I sent my idea to AnalogMike and he likes it so I'm thinking it's probably a pretty good idea. I will try to take pictures tonight when I get home and post them here.
