| They're selling me one for about $ 20, it's working well but not in perfect cosmetic condition.. Waht do yo think of this one? I remember having one 10 years ago and sounded awful with my single-coil Peavey Predator an my Peavey Rage 108 amp... Any opinions guys? And how much woudl you pay for one? |

At that price you can hardly go wrong. I think the HM-2 is quite decent for getting that 80s hair-metal sound. It has been mentioned on the forum here earlier about how the dist knob does absolutely nothing between 3 and 8 and how the tone controls are really sensitive. |

Ditto - Can't go wrong at that price ! THE HM-2 goes CHEAP because at first run, sounds gritty, and needs a lot of patience to work the tones. Methinks most folks lack the patience to tweak this thing. Not kidding - I generally dislike distortion boxes, and I got an HM-2 in a lot, (remember borrowing a freinds once eons ago and hated it then) and can now really appreciate some of the BIG sounds this thing makes. The BLACK CASE IS COOOOL too!
This pedal's color mix L and colour mix H AND the distortion control, all work together. due to hearing hangover, make only slight adjustments to the tone controls and play ... adjust play adjust play ... etc. It has a surprisingly dynamic tone control setup, but don't be hasty, you will soon find a couple of sweet spots!!!!!!!!
oh yah, before you do that, set you AMP EQ to FLAT, if you turn the L control up too much, and your bass control on our amp is up (say > 5) it will really wooooooooooof underneath!!!!!!!! so you will need to work your amp and the pedal together. The HM-2 is a surprising JEM but the dual tone control probably frustrated a lot of the DS-1, OD-1 etc users because theyhad a simple single tone control.
The "L" control boosts cuts 100k the H control boosts cuts 1000K according to the instruction manual.

| I may be passing on that pedal, the guy will not sell it for less than $ 30 and it's beat up, it even has a bit of rust over the pedal, and I'm the jacks are a bit rusty too... I think that for $ 30 you can get one in pretty good condition, what do you think? |

Around last Xmas I got a HM-2 for about 20$ on Ebay. I think there are so many HM-2 out there so it should be more or less easy to get one for a reasonable price. I like the HM-2 for some special sounds. Its not an alround pedal but for what it stands for its very good - and for some more |

| $30 for a beat up HM-2 is too much. This is a fairly common pedal that can be found on ebay in good condition at the same price. |
