I have the opportunity to buy a Highway 1 Stratocaster, used, at a what I think is good price and I have a couple of questions for you guys with the Fender smarts.
A/ Are the Highway one strats OK?
B/ If I buy it, will I have to eat an entire crow, or would just a crow sandwich do? I ate a good deal of poultry over the holidays and don't have much of an appetite for bird.

Back about 4 years ago I looked long and hard at all manner of strats: Mexican, japanese, Highway One, USA standard, and anniversary editions. I must have played 100 of them around town.

I ended up getting the Aerodyne - the Highway One at about the same price point just seemed "thin" to me.

I have heard of the Highway1 guitars having inconsistances in quality but for the most part it should be alright. As long as you try it before you buy it you'll know if it feels right.

Keep us updated.

i have a highway 1 jazz bass and can not pick a fault with it. ive heard people say they don't like because of build quality but, as i said, mine is flawless and a steal at the price i got it new. just try it out and see what its like for the price. i particularly like the thin finish, seems to have a more open sound than my friends s1 jazz bass.

It is just like this one, only it is a 2006 model so it has a 60th anniversary badge on the back of the headstock;

I hate my strat but it isn't a real Fender. I can get this one cheap enough that if I don't like it someone will buy it off me. I gave it a try already and it is much better than my old one.

Hi pedals 4 pv

Does it have the large shark fin 60's-70's headstock, or is that just the angle on the sample pics?

If it was me, & I had already played it,
I would buy it in a heart beat, reminds me of my old 64 Strat. sunburst color & all, that I sold off as a teenager. (yeah I know, & don't go there).

And I sense you have already decided.

I found this Dr. Bob. Warmoth is officially licenced by Fender so it should be accurate.

Hi pedals 4 pv

Apologies, for stealing your Hwy-1 Strat thread.

When I asked for Neck profiles.
I had no Idea, it was going to get so busy in just a couple of posts.

Unfortunately, the way Bossarea has the forum code setup, I'm unable to move an individual post, unless I move the entire post/thread.

DeFrag, I have created a new thread called "Fender Neck Profiles".
http://www.bossarea.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6151

Can I ask you to cut & paste you posts, into that thread.
Please leave a text placeholder that says:

If I do it, it will have my name as the poster, & you deserve all the credit on this.

Regards Dr. Bob

it's ok..we won't make you eat any more bird ...after your thanksgiving and christmas you would probably start sprouting feathers......especially now that your starting to get sense on the guitar front.......

I don't think you will go far wrong with the highway 1 strat..later if you don't like it or a better one comes along you will sell it easy enough i would imagine.....be careful strats are addictive.once you start twanging in the out of phase positions it's hard to go back to anything else.....

on a slightly different topic..i'm starting to play my yamaha a lot more through the musicman amp with a bit of reverb real early Peter Green/Fleetwood Mac type sound.... but the weight is a killer..i couldn't imagine a whole gig with a Les Paul....

DeFrag...unbelievable.... excellent stuff..........

P.S. nice to see you back 'pedals' haven't heard from you in a while......

Well it looks like no one want to answer the question, so i will. The hightway one's are american made they are good. but not as good as the regular american strat. They probabaly let there newer builders makes them.Last week i had time off to go guitar shopping. i checked out a highway one.It was a little bit better made then a mexican and a little bit worse made the a american strat.I didn't like the one i tried out.Frets and neck seemed bad but that was just the instrument not all will be like that. For me it would not be that good of an instrument.BUt i have high standards. BUt for most of the guitar playing world it is a good instrument. I mean if the neck feels good you can always change everything else. i mean that is what i look for in a guitar. a great neck. i can always adjust everything else.
As for pricing on a used one without out seeing a pic of it. i would have to price it accordingly to other guitars. For a used one.i saw them new in guitarcenter for about 750. the music store i went to had one for about 650. as for a used one i would put it about 300-400 usd for it.

Not to be rude....but 'knowing' pedals4pv and traded the odd fender vs gibson insult over the last few years on the forum(all in good fun) i reckon i did answer the question ....i told him if later he didn't like it he would be able to flip it easy enough and probably get near enough the same money he paid for it....i can never see anything take the place of him Gibson Dove or his Les Paul as his NO-1 guitars so this would probably perfect for someone who wants a strat for something a little different to their normal guitar especially if he is getting it for a good price......but i do agree with you on the american standards being a better quality of strat..and IMHO the ones that Fender started making in the U.S. again after the buyout from CBS are some of the best.....my mate had a an earlier one than mine and he sold it without giving me first refusal a few years ago....i was sick... probably one of the best strats i ever played and i've been lucky enough to try out a lot over the years including some custom shop stuff and a couple of original 62's...one of which had a neck like a baseball bat and my jap 62 reissue at the time left it in the dust soundwise and for playability......

the deluxe strat is a little better then the american. i tried a righty out and i don't think i like the noiseless pick ups or the new switching system. if i bought one i would probably rip all that stuff out.I have one of the first fender mexicans. it is actually a pretty good guitar. It really needs new pickups cause the one with it are not that good. But it is a lefty an i think it will be collectable someday so i will keep it stock.Preety good for the house use but not much for gigging.I also got a lefty japan way better then the mexi , it is just as good as a american

The Hiway 1 is $900 CDN cheaper than the American standard, cause I just priced the strats at L&M. I was there buying new strings and stuff for my

STRATOCASTER

The guitar is in showroom condition, except it is missing the tremelo cover and the neck plate has some scratches. The nut on the output jack was loose as well. I ordered a trem cover (an utterly useless item I know, but I want one, just because) and bought a new neck plate with the Fender logo on it which will look much better than the plain one. It sits on the kichen table now, all apart as I wait for the fretboard oil to dry. It does nothing to disprove the old line that MIM strats are built in Mexico by Mexicans and US strats are made in California by Mexicans. My neck was made by M. Gonzales and the body by R. Moreno. I am giving her a real good clean and polish job tonight and new strings. I got it with the Fender gigbag for $535CDN including tax. New it's $880CDN plus 12.5% tax so I think I got a great bargain. It didn't come easy. I got stuck in the snow on the way to the bank and then there was a slow moving line-up at the bank. When I finally got to the pawnshop there was another fellow playing it! The staff at the pawnshop were laughing like hell and said the look on my face when I seen him with the guitar was just priceless! Anyway he didn't have the cash on him and I did so I got it.
