At what level should I set pedals?
Right now I play hard my guitar with pedals off, and try to match the level that sound produces, with my pedals.
Problem is that if I play soft with any of my pedals on, it's way louder than with them off.
How do you set your levels guys?
Is it alright to call that "unity gain" or am I misusing the term?

Well, my friend, your situation is why Boss invested the LS-2.
With the LS-2 you can make 3 effects loops (1. your normal signal) (2 and 3 are switchable with the pedal) and you can slightly cut or boost the 2 loops on the pedal.
Organize your pedals into signal chain order, determine which ones you need to work together, and which ones you can use separately.
Figure out, which NON-level control pedals give you a boost when you don't intend it.
Put them on different loops.
This can work really good if you have a single "noisy" pedal like a digitech whammy II.
If you use the effects loop in your amplifier, you have four  loops to work with.
Finally, check your compressor settings too.
Dunno if that helps, but you will surely go batty for a while if you have mit full of pedals! A little  will help too. |
