Exactly my point... not that i have a problem with people using pedals or amps etc... but as joe satriani put it once..."it's about the quality of the expression"..i've nothing against anyone playing fast, slow, acoustic, electric etc.... whatever.... as long as it's good and not just scales for the sake of them...the point i was making about shredders was that it's the same as a list of blues players, classical, country or jazzers...if everyone is doing the same thing it gets boring...personally what i love is a country player throwing in a few jazz or rock licks and a blues player throwing in a jazz lick etc....spice it up and push yourself outside the 'box'..pick up the acoustic and try some fingerstyle... Chrissydamage mentioned johnny marr... a good example of someone not afraid to experiment and try something new and a well deserved nomination to the list....also known to be fond of using boss gear.... .......

Part of the list as to what makes a good guitarist is 1.Innovation 2.Technique 3.Versatility
Still working on a few other things |

| I'd like to see Brian Setzer on the list, influential guitarist for a lot of people (including me). |

Nice one lol thats just made my afternoon.....
Check out some of the reviews for his guitars on harmony central, some of them are so funny.......
My personal favourites:
Yep, it's made in China. So what? My wife was made in china and she is faithful, beautiful, and an all around great person. The guitar doesn't have as many nice features as my wife, but it is still a good guitar.
Action- What action? Steve Urkel gets more action than this.
I hung up, called back, and was lucky enough to speak to a customer service rep who actually spoke English- Her name was Liz and although she knew nothing of guitars, she introduced me to several new swear words. She explained that whatever my opinion, I was wrong.

Michael Angelo also taught RATMs Tom Morello.......
I'm not saying every 'technical speedfreak' should be included just purely of how fast they play, but the genre should be represented somehow because there are some amazing guitarists, some of which are far more influential than you think........
Marty Friedman is so popular in Japan he has his own TV show for example!
In fact many of the people I included were not even shredders, Johhny Marr from the Smiths, John Squire from the Stone Roses, Paco de Lucia who is a Flamenco(?) guitarist- all of them great players with very different styles.....
Neoclassical is hardly original anyway regardless of who pioneered it- Its often classical music themes reworked and played on a guitar relying heavily on the harmonic minor/diminished and diabolos scales. Blackmore may have influenced Malmsteen but without the work Paganini did centuries earlier the whole genre almost certainly wouldn't exist.......
haha yes i know who all of the guitarists you put on there are... and i agree with you that all of them deserve a spot on the top 100 EXCEPT Chris Broderick lol. I know that Blackmore isn't as complex and technical as Paco De Lucio but his simple stuff has actually made an influential impact on music. i wouldn't say that dimebag was purely limited to that harmonic scale mode, i've seen him sample every kinda music from country to experimental so i wouldn't say he's just another speed freak either... just me tho |

Just looking at the list, why is Josh Homme on there?
...Cause he was in a band called Kyuss which pretty much made stoner rock. His credits also include Queens of the Stone Age which suck now first 3 cds were good. Also in the super group Them Crooked Vultures among others bands.
You know what Jack White has done a lot... not really a fan but he deserves a nod. |

You need to add Richard Thompson.
When it comes to folk rock this is the man. |

Also noticed Scotty Moore and Les Paul on there twice each.
Not complaining...IMO they both deserve mentioning twice. |
