FWIW, if you (meaning forum members in general) haven't gotten a copy of The Boss Book, you should.

It's a shameless piece of marketing propaganda by Boss loosely vailed as a historic look at the evolution of Boss and its pedals, but it has a lot of great info and pix in it that will help you understand the many variations of Boss pedals.

They show up on ebay on a regular basis or you can buy them from amazon.com, etc.

I can't decide whether my favorite Boss pedal name is the Bee Baa or the Funny Cat....

Grace and peace,

Steve

Its a great book indeed, even though the marketing propaganda is quite noticable. The soundsamples are also mainly focused on pedals that are still in production today, even though soundclips are found on some discontinued treasures. Independant soundclips of all Boss pedals throughout the years should have been included on the cd.

Im sure there are lots of more info that could be compiled into another book, to follow up and give a more in depth analysis on certain aspects of Boss compact pedal evolution over the years.

But on the other hand, we have this great forum...

The Boss book is helpful. I own it and skim through it regularly, and sometimes I drool over the pedals I don't have.

I believe the Funny Cat is some kind of AutoWah/Fuzz pedal. There is a good description of it here: http://www.tonefrenzy.com/effects/roland_funnycat.html

I love the Boss Book especially the articles in there seem to stir up the collectors market; "The PW-2 was the pedal with the shortest production life - it's sure to command a premium in the future!"....eBay here we come

The Boss Book is a great resource. I would love to see an updated version though. Perhaps based on actual research done by someone that details the collector's point of view and gets into all of the specifics about batch numbers, serial numbers, PCB versions, "actual" production run numbers, etc.
