I have once tried a theremin, a vintage one, and that was a lot of fun!
Are the new ones very expensive?

Hi Defrag

You said it wa a Kit? do you have to build the PCB's kind of kit, or a screw it all together kind of kit?

What do they cost.

A local electronics & hobby magazine here in Oz, called "Silicon Chip"
designed & published a hobby kit one as well. & the kits are sold through the local electronics shops.
It was under $60 if I remember???
They have a web page.

Just found the link, they actually have 3 different designs.
My friend has all the mags going back quite a way,
I might ask if I can scan the articles.

The kit includes a fully populated PCB. All you gotta do is throw the thing together, solder a few points, & stain the wood for $319 @ http://bigcitymusic.com/product.asp?cat=New&pid=1000055. Piece o' cake.

Moog offers $30 off this month http://www.moogmusic.com/manuals/grammy_sale_rebate_form_2008.pdf

Ahhh... I feel much better now. I got the requisite Hercules round-bottomed stand to go with it. Herc sure makes quality stands.

Alrighty then!

Its put together.. all that analog Moog goodness. I guess you never really forget how to solder up a good job. Sure, its probably one of the toughest instruments to play but what a fun little project. I'll tune it up tonight for the widest octave range (5 I think), sensitivity & such. I'm currently running it through my Peavey Studio Pro 40 guitar amp high-gain input & with a bit of Saturation & 'verb it sounds fantastic. Moog even includes a Hot Rod modification manual to add different outputs. Its strange that they'll fully cover this thing under warranty as if you bought it fully assembled from them but that's Moog.. one great company.

Hi DeFrag
Congrats dude
I have 3 words --- SOUND SAMPLES Please.

PS
I found the bits to my old Optomin that I wrote about above.
I'll have to rebuild the case, but it's all there..
It was a prototype & just made from heavy cardboard. & gaffa tape.
Just waiting for the rainy season ...

I dunno man.. this thing is tough. I'm trying to bang out a simple scale or Amazing Grace. Its hard enough coordinating my hands for volume & pitch.. like patting your head & rubbing your tummy.. then switching. Vibrato on the pitch antenna, tremolo on the volume antenna. Tks for your interest but don't hold your breath. It'll be a while.
