Clue me in. I've NEVER used a tuner, ALWAYS went by ear. I wouldn't mind owning a tuner, due to a pending gig status. Silent tuning will be key to that. What is THE BEST, most versatile & stage friendly tuner Boss makes??? Can you easily achieve different step tunings or drop tunings with the TU-2??? What is the pinnacle Boss tuner???

Get a TU-12
Very, very accurate.
They handle some wild tunings. Leave it in chromatic mode and I used one to tune everything... Electric guitars, bass guitars, acoustic guitars, mandolins, bouzoukis, recorders, etc...
It'll fit in almost any guitar case, and the battery lasts ages too.

I use a TU-12 as well...have it for as long as i can remember..i got it off a mate who said it was broke at the time.... that must of been well over 15 years ago and it still on my board going strong after some minor repairs,i.e repaired solder joints and new input jack..
Boss IMHO messed up by soldering the input/output jacks direct to the circuit board,if your planning on constantly plugging/unplugging into it it can become a problem area as the solder joints can crack and the inputs aren't as strong as the pedals...
A reason for this could be due to the nature of some guitar leads these days with the 'wings' on them like the Planet Waves ones that fit very tightly into inputs/outputs......these days mine is fulltime plugged in off the second send of a LS-2 for silent tuning on gigs....so no tone loss ar any other issues usually associated with tuners and no more problems with plugging in and out...if your planning on using it fulltime on your pedalboard i can't see a problem....... |

| I use a TU-2 plus an A-B pedal to get it out of the chain when I'm not using it - "A" leg goes to the rest of the board, "B" leg goes to the TU-2. |

++ 1 On the TU12H here. Mine's about twenty years old... fellow who gave it to me quit playing the banjo. A 9V seems to last ages in that thing.
I've also got a little, tiny Barcus-Berry green LED tuner that clips on the headstock, it is not quite as accurate, but it's very handy and you can just leave it attached to your guitar; fits nicely in the case. That set me back twenty bucks new.
Nice catch on the Mu-Tron by the way. |

| I love the TU-2 just leave it the chromatic mode and you can tune anything. i tune C standard and drop Bb with no problems. i also have a korg cheap tuner which doesn't handle low frequencies well. |

The new (and brootalz) Korg Pitchblack is receiving great reviews. It even true bypasses the evil of your tone into the amplifier.
The TU-2, while a great stage tuner, just had a big price increase.. All the Peterson products are amazing and accurate, but very pricey.
The 12H is great, but you might need something more LED-like. Look at the shiny new TU-1000 . For lack of tone suck, you'll need something with a tuner-out and a mute (Ernie Ball Volume pedal?)..
good luck! |

Hi!
Wich tuner is good enough to do intonation with? I use a Yamaha with leds - called YT something. It has the shape of YU-12 but with leds. I have always thought that it worked. But maybe intonation needs a less tolerant tuner, suggestions?

Stinkfoot(andreas who drops in from time to time) has his own company stinkfoot electronics..and there was a topic a good while back on using the tuner out on volume pedals,i'm no expert on impedance issues but i think the thrust of his argument was using the volume pedal in this manner cause a drop in signal strength from your guitar to drive your pedals and the front end of your amp.....he has his own webpage http://www.stinkfoot.se/info/faq_en.htm i think i remember he had an article on this somewhere....maybe in the FAQ's ........ |

Why not? I've always used one for intonation with no issues? |

Hi zerksies Which tuners do & have you used for setting Intonation?
I'm guessing it's one big name ones, with a stroboscopic display?
I have a computer based calibration procedure, I use to calibrate the Boss TU-12 & TU-12H's. The on board microprocessor is very accurate, but it's let down by the limitations of the small meter movement.
