Hi Paladin2019
You wrote:

I'll have to make some notes on mine, take some good pics and post my findings back here; maybe someone will find it useful in the future.
The data-sheets to both BBD's & the others, plus the Driver-Clock IC's, are here at: http://www.datasheet4u.com
mn3207 http://www.datasheet4u.com/share_search.php?sWord=mn3207&x=0&y=0
MN3007 http://www.datasheet4u.com/share_search.php?sWord=mn3007&x=3&y=9
I have posted this link many times before, It's free to use, Unlike the one I pay for at work; And it has a VAST database of data-sheets.
Hope this helps.

There are times in life when you have to admit you've made a silly mistake. Sometimes you invest time and money in that mistake and drag innocent, friendly and very helpful people like yourselves into your silly mistake.
The story goes like this. 6 months ago I bought the new chips, and have spent time on and off since then trying to find how to get them into the CE2. After joining this forum and talking to you all, I discovered a family friend willing to loan me an ossiliscope and signal generator. Next, I pop down to Maplins to buy IC sockets and a new 10K trimpot to mess around with so that I don't screw up the original bias settings. Then I open up the pedal and spend 10 minutes taking some good shots of the bottom of the circuit board so we can discuss the differences between the two chip versions and work out a mod. I flip the board over onto the component side... MN3007 and MN3101.
I know exactly what happened. For 6 months I've confused my CE2 with the Tokai TFL-1 flanger I have. Can someone please reassure me that they've done something equally foolish at some point? I am literally bright red as I write this |

Hi Paladin2019
That's OK.
The real truth is....................... I snuck over to your place (very late) the other night & swapped out the Sh!tty MN3207 version of the board, & replaced it with a one of my spare vintage MN3007 ones.
See all those years of playing Santa paid off. (Disclaimer - If you still believe in Santa, Yes he really does exist. In fact in our home, if you you don't believe in Santa, you don't get a Chrissy present - period!)
So no need to feel embarrassed.
I think this used to called a "baptism of fire"...

Haha, great story. Sounds like something I would do myself.
Did the CE-2 ever have the MN3207? I haven't seen the internals of any MIT CE-2s so it might very well have had a BBD replacement. Does anyone know? |

Lucky....... it was only you who spotted me the other night. And yes it was the little light blue car.
I managed to get a new reg number for my other car as well, can you guess? CE2-CE2
But no-one seem to get it...

Ah, I feel much better now! I should have known Santa would be responsible for all this...
Just a quickie update on my progress, I downloaded the instructions for the Monte Allums mod and did it with panasonic and mallory caps rather than the tants and boxed films that he recommends. I really like how it sounds, though I may return the .033uF's to original spec because the change in depth can be a little too much for my tastes at high settings (although it's great most of the time). The double rate mod is fantastic fun but sounds very synthetic at the top of the range. Maybe a .068uF cap would have been better to cut out the really wibbly-wobbly stuff you get with the .047uF, but I'm leaving it as it is; nothing has been lost.
The weak link in this mod, IMO, is the Burr Brown op amp. Everyone seems to rave about this thing elsewhere on the net but I've never seen it work well in a pedal. I hated it in the Tubescreamer (too clinical, not enough grit) and while it certainly cleaned up the CE2 brilliantly it also took away a lot of the lo-fi warmth that's part of this pedal's charm. Fortunately I socketed it and on return to the 4558 that classic tone was mine again.
I'm really happy with how this experience has turned out, and I'm very glad I found this forum! |

lemme chime in again before it's too late. It seems (to me) this thread will go, eventually, to the point of finding MN3007's. Ebay is the usual start and will generate hits with fairly good prices, usually orient stuff.
2 months ago I got burned on a batch of 10 fake MN3007's. Don't worry, I can cope with the loss. Basically relabelled chips in a 8 pin case, none fuctional and owscolliscopewise all over the place. Junk so to say. Naturally the seller claims they're real and all other buyers I contacted had not used em yet.
What I want to say is, be extremely carefull with buying chips like these on ebay from an unverified seller. Good feedback is, unfortunately, no verification.
And counterfeited electronics is a problem now but will be much bigger in the future. Especially with rare (but far from limited to) IC's. I suspect the first batches of, suddenly appearing, SAD1024A chips to show up within a year. Keeping in mind that there was no electronics production of FX in the Orient and especially China other than Japan in the time these chips were used it's rather odd to see large amounts showing up in the wrong region.
Be carefull. If it's topo good to be true... it usually isn't. |
