Maybe theres a tread somewhere, but what are the differences between DD-3s and what is the best? I mean DD-3 from 1986? DD-3C? What does sound better?

The early ones are supposed to be best.
Look at www.stinkfoot.se theres a long article about versions.

The "long-chip" version uses a really funky analogue-digital-analogue-(and around) path for repeats. Sounds good to most people.

I still have two of them on my board, one from the early 90's and the other from a few years back...the older one has a more 'analogue' sound to it,i use that one for short repeats..the repeats seem to get dirty and fade off...the newer one is a bit more 'clean' sounding...i use that one for long delays... i like the DD-3 even though i use a rack as well for extra delay/reverb i still have the DD-3's on my board, there is something about the ambience they create that i like...

Tks guys! I forgot about that article! I read it last year or maybe 2 years ago! It seems that older versions are better.

One thing they all have in common is that sooner or later they all seem to break down.. (yes, i have another dead dd-3..)

Hmmmm... I've found the opposite. All my DD-2/3 pedals are running just fine (I use at least a couple of them every day).

Admittedly, all but one of my DD-2/3 pedals have been rescues, but the failed ones have all been due to some external factor... these pedals particularly don't like reverse/over voltage.

My theory is that with proper care and feeding (read, a regulated supply) they will be OK indefinitely??
