hey guys,
anybody here using their delay for reverby sounds? i've tried to use my DD-6 and DD-3 on short delay settings but all i can seem to get is a metallic pingy sound. it sounds a bit like someone dropping heavy steel bars.
anybody have any idea how to get a half decent 'verb out of a delay? |

| You want a longer delay time with lots of repeats, but a low delay level. |

| I've been using a DM-3 for a light reverb sound - it's GREAT! |

From the home page For a reverb-type effect: Great for starting a song with a hard rock guitar riff. Delay time ranges from 50 to 200ms. (Fig 2: E.Level 5, F.Back 7, D.Time 5, Mode M 200ms)
works out to be about 125ms, play around from there with the knobs |

| so do the analog delays not sound too brittle and metallic when using them as reverbs? |

correct. that is why analog delays are so sought after.
the DD-3 is probably the least metallic of the new boss delays.
the easiest analog delay to track down in an affordable price range for most is probably a reissue ibanez AD9. have stumbled upon these for $100ish ($140 new).
doesn't quite beat the deal i got on an original one back in 1996 ($25) and i don't like them quite as much as a DM-2/DM-3, but they're a lot cheaper than most analog delays out there.

Many people (Gilmour included)who own a DD3 do the analog mod where the echo darkens as it fades out. Its a simple cap across the two other lugs of either the Effects knob, or the Feedback knob. You could use a .1 to 1, the high the cap, the more highs are taken out. I use a dp3t switch for .047 and .1 caps. Sometimes you want that metallic delay sound, and sometimes you don't |

The Analog and the Tape Head (especially the 2 head setting) functions on the DD20 work very well. The echoes deteriorate and darken very nicely.
The fact you can also adjust the tone of the delay is very useful too. |

I use my DM2 with the delay at 12o'clock and the other 2 knobs at 10 o'clock to get a nice ambient, reverby sound. (through an AC30).
Works for me
PS even the "darker than most digital pedals" DD2 didn't really work as a reverb" , so go analog I would say |

I can get delay sounds from my RV-3 reverb, does that count? |

Agreed - not perfect, but will suffice if no proper reverb is available |
