| Typically, the flangers I've heard produce a big swirling whooshing kind of sound. I'm interested in getting a MIJ BF-2, but I was wondering if I could get a more subtle chorus type of sound out of it. |

try this: dial the manual and res knob to 0. for the depth and rate knobs, dial them between 11-12 o clock depending on the effect you want. |

I used to have a CE-2B but i threw it out when i got my BF-2B: because the BF-2B could recreate the chorus thing and i thought it sounded way cooler than the CE-2B. Maybe this could also be true for the BF-2 and the CE-2. |

I'm just re-posting this from another thread:
The main difference between a flanger & a chorus pedal is that a flanger will feedback the delayed signal from the BBD back to the input. That's the RESonance knob on the BF-2. If you turn the RES knob all the way CCW, you'll find that you can get very chorus like sound from the BF-2. The Speed knob is not linear - the fast speeds come on very quickly near the end of its travel clockwise. But, it will go faster than any Boss chorus pedal, so you can get the fast Leslie type sounds from the BF-2 that you can't with the chorus pedals.
You can set the Manual knob anywhere, but for slow chorus sounds I think it sounds better between 12 o'clock & 5 o'clock.
Grace and peace,
Steve

| Yes, you can get chorus like sounds when set conservatively (as described by others above), but I doubt a serious chorus lover would be satisfied. Personally, I think conservative flanger sounds more interesting than chorus. |

There is another difference between chorus and flanger: In both the signal runs through a very short and modulated delay. In a chorus the delay time is somewhere between 20ms and 30ms and in a flanger from 1ms to aprx. 10ms.
The "manual" pot controls the delaytime. So if it works in the way that turning the pot cw will increase the delaytime I suggest turn the manual all the way up to get the longest delaytime possible. But you might be out of the chorus-area anyway. |
