I'm not the original owner. Mine sounds pretty good, up to 330ms and the repeats are a bit warmer than my DD-3 but is this supposed to be jaw-droppingly different than a dd-3 set to short delay ?

It doesn't sound too bad. It's with the long delay times that you really hear the difference. With short delays there's still a difference but I wouldn't say the difference is jaw dropping.

I agree with bossarea. The DD-3's short delay (and even medium setting) can sound pretty close to the DM-2. I also have a DD-2 which I use to get a Dave Gilmour style echo (think Run Like Hell from The Wall) And the difference is not too far apart. I'd say that the DD-5 and DD-6 are the ones that sound radiacly different from the DM-2 on the short delays.

OK I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

The pedal would sound obviously strnage if the trimpots had been played around with ?

If the trimpots had been adjusted it would typically be noisier. You would also hear a high pitched note (6.8kHz) if the clock frequency leak is badly adjusted.

Cool. I definately have a quiet pedal and no high pitch noise. Thanks for your help.

I know this reply should technically go into the mods and tech forum, but it's related to this topic too.

I have two analog delays from the 80s made by another Japanese company that have a very faint high-pitched frequency going on. I suppose this has to do with the clock frequency adjustment. I don't know how to adjust this myself, but I'm wondering if someone can tell me how to do it if I were to send a schematic to them.

The Dod Gonkulator that I bought less than a month ago has the same problem. The frequency is about 2-3kHz and it's driving me nuts.

I read on Harmony Central that each trimpot has a green sludge to hold them in factory position. If the seal on the green slugde has been broken, the trimpots have been tampered with.

I just bought a DM-2, and thought Id check this out on mine to see if there really are green seals on the trimpots. And yes, the green sludge was there on each trimpot, as a seal. I examined them with a magnifying glass and discovered that they were untouched on my DM-2, which was a relief.

So, this might be a helpful tip to easily check the trimpots on a DM-2.

I've seen several pedals where the green glob looks intact, but when you turn the pot it you realize that it is only stuck to the top of the pot & turning with it. So, make sure that it looks like it is stuck solidly to something else.

Grace and peace,

Steve
