It's beautiful, but crazy expensive. You can get just as much instrument for a lot less money than that.

Besides the bridge, that MSRP isn't cool either.
Gibson, what are you trying to prove here?

A lot of those era Les Pauls were converted from the trapeeze tailpiece to the standand tun-o-matic ones because of the intonation and tuning stability problems that miky mentioned...

Hi Dirk, they went with that bridge because it's a '52 tribute. As for the price, if ya have ta ask...

The tailpiece is not an exact reproduction of an original 1952 tailpiece:
Original

Reissue

Like stated earlier, this setup proved to be archaic and most changed the bridges out as soon as they could. Even Gibson did so by 1954.

Personally I could take it or leave it...

I have played an original 52 Les Paul and I can tell you that the original bridge was extremely awkward, the strings running under the bridge was not Les Pauls original idea, he meant it to be like the new Gibson in this topic.

I know, I like the concept of reissued gear and all, I just don't understand why it has to cost twice as much as their regular models.
That sucks

5500 MSRP ends up being about $4000-4500 on the street. This is definitely for a very limited market!

The Limited Edition Les Paul GT from 2005-2007ish had a hot-rod style flame paint job, chrome hardware, pickup rings, and v t knobs, with coil tapping. MSRP for that guitar was also 5500, street price (major guitar chains) was $2900 and now 2nd hand, they are 1800-2000.

Gibson has done a crappy job in issuing "so many" re-issues they are making it very confusing for collectors and peeps who just want to buy a cool guitar.

now for this 52, I think it looks great, but wth is with the crappy bridge????

54ish or whenever the stopbar came out, that would be about as far back as they need to go

I don't know, am I missing the point here? It seems to me that Gibson is offering this for people who would like a 52 gold top but can"t afford or justify the freight for an original. If you don"t like the bridge buy something else. None of our opinions matter anyway as they're all sold and if ya didn't get on the list, you'll have to wait for eBay.
