I'm working on the new gallery pages and would like to know what screen resolution you're all using. I've previously tried to optimise the pages for 1024x768 but I'm tempted to design them for higher resolutions. Let me hear what settings you're using.
Thanks!

I'm still using 1024x768. Everything's too small for me on my monitor if I rack up the resolution more than this.

1280 for me, but I think it's more wise to keep 1024 for a website. Ome people are still at 800*600...

I have my main computer and computer at work both set to 1280(19" monitors) but I noticed that my secondary computer which has a 15" LCD monitor only supports up to 1024 with the only other option being 800x600(not sure if thats the driver for the monitor or the video card). This is less than a year old so this may also be the case with some other members?

I'm one of those people still at 800x600 -- it's mainly because of my eyesight (or lack thereof) these days. That, and an againg CRT monitor to boot. I don't mind scrolling a 1024x768 setup, though.

I run 1600x1200, the maximum that my video card & 19" monitor supports. Once I by a new computer next year with a 27" widescreen, I'll probably sit with my face in the monitor & run the highest it supports as well.

While it HAS been prudent in the past to write web sites to 1024x768, I personally think the practice is a bygone era where people had 15-17" monitors & 2D video cards. If we don't push the envelope "a little bit", we'd be stuck back at VGA & so would the rest of the world.

I vote for a notch or two up in resolution. I mean who wants giant Mario Bros. icons for photos on a page where you can only fit 3 across? I DO think however you should stick to the 1.33:1 ratio though. Here are the resolutions I recommend:

1152x864 1.33:1 ratio (same as the old 1024x768) at least choose this one if you don't go higher
1280x960 1.33:1 ratio & a nice compromise to start supporting & the one I'd choose
1280x1024 maximum I'd recommend supporting but probably a bit too high, users will cry incessantly

1280 x 1024, although when I upgrade soon I will go to a higher resolution.

I was using 1280*960 for the longest time, and recently upgraded to a widescreen (1680*1050). The site still looks fine, actually. You're safe with either 1024 or 1280, and sticking to a 4/3 ratio is definitely a good idea. I don't think widescreens are going to take over just yet.

1024x768 for speed. those with 1600x1200 will then have room to
view their nifty boss pedal wall papers while surfing bossarea.com and reading the forum.
