I've been close to buying one on a number of occasions but never pulled the trigger for one reason or another, and I've found myself looking into them once again. I'm just looking for opinions and maybe even clips perhaps. How do you FZ-3 owners like it? I've read that some compare it to a Tonebender while others say it's more like a Fuzz Face. What's the dish on it?

I believe Goran is the Fuzz master here, he should be able to help
I'm leaning towards a foxx tone machine clone for fuzz, wouldn't mind hearing about the FZ3 tho, 'spose to be the only Boss pedal without intergrated circuits.

I think the OD-2 has no ic's as well christo but i'm not 100% on this as i'm no expert in that dept,it's just something i read once.... i have both pedals....the FZ-3 is as far as i know based on silicon version fuzz face,it's not a bad pedal but not a 'classic' fuzz sound that some people might expect,i used it with a DS-1 and my 0D-2 for a long time on my 'board and i still have it,we were doing a lot of early floyd stuff at the time and i used it a good bit with the OD-2 for the solos.....you won't get that eric johnson fuzzface sound but it's pretty unique if you want my 2 cents....

I'm not necessarily looking for a "classic" fuzz, so that wouldn't be a problem. I dont know...how else would you describe it? I've read a lot of mixed review on it.

Fuzzes are like candy, some you like some you dont, and another person has totally reversed opinions
I dont think FZ-3 sounds like a typical silicon Fuzz Face, not the ones I ve heard anyway. Even silicon Fuzz Faces have smoothness to their sound that FZ-3 dont have. FZ-3 is raspier and has more fuzziness, more like old Asian made fuzzes.
I think FZ-3 is a nice fuzz in the vintage style but I like FZ-2 more as it is a better noise-maker, but the sound of it is a bit more towards a distortion pedal. You can get a lot more variations with FZ-2.
FZ-5 I dont like at all, I dont understand why Boss released this.
In conclusion, and my opinion, Boss is not as good on fuzzes as they are on ods or distortions.

If you want a really good handbuilt fuzz look here:

I have the NPN silicon version and this is the best fuzz I ever heard, and they are dirt cheap too.

As mentioned in another topic Boss ML-2 can also produce some very good fuzzy tones.

That might be the selling point for me right there. Thanks!
