Hi everyone!
Before Christmas, I was using a solid state 35 Watt Fender Bass amp as a guitar amp. Hey, not too bad for a 17 year-old with no job, right? This Christmas though, I got one of the Fender Super Champ XD's...15 watts of tube tone. My pride and joy. 
As good as this is, the problem is--my DS-1 sounds very lacking on it. The amp has channels, but I don't have the foot switch and don't want to have to get it since there's a noticeable change in volume between the clean channel 1 and the second channel with the voices. So, someone mentioned to me the DS1 mods--one that I was interested in involved clipping out a few resistors, resulting in a better, thicker tone. Does anyone know anything about this?
I've been looking around here for a while, but the problem is that it's all just foreign to me, even after a year of physics class. So, the idea of just opening it up and cutting out a resistor (or two or three) seemed simple enough to handle.

| I don't know of the one you're specifically talking about, but a few good google searches (ie, "boss ds-1 mods", and other stuff like that) and you have a wealth of info. I've done about 3 DS-1 mods and have to say they were all improvements over the stock one. |

Welcome to the forum from Australia.
Why don't you make up a simple footswitch to do the channel switching.
For a simple footswitch:
If the amp use mono sockets for the footswitch. (most do).
All you will need is an old guitar lead, & a tobacco tin to mount the foot switch into, even just a toggle switch will do, until you can get-find a stomp switch.
Or just cut off one lend of the guitar lead, strip the cut ends, until you see both inner wire & the shield.
Inset the uncut end into the switch socket, and touch the two bare wires together.
You should see the amp switch across, while you have the wires touching.
If it doesn't - don't continue, it might have a more complex switching arrangement, but unlikely.
If it does switch over, and if you have a switch solder it to the bare ends of the wires.
or if you have an alligator lead - clip this across the bare wires to make a temporary switch.
