I have both MIJ and MIT (early and later) and I like MIJ the best, but early MIT sound the same, they have the same op-amp. I also like Stinkfoots DS-1 mod a lot, this is a completely (well… nearly) different pedal. It has a little less distortion on max but the distortion available is really good, BUT Stinkfoot´s mod has huge amounts of volume. It works really great with tube amps.

What can you tell me compare a DS-1 Taiwan & DS-1 Japan? What the difference in sound? Or what mode can you recommend? Or what pedal you can recommend me (i didn't like Metal Zone). I need a heavy distortion (for punk-rock/grunge/riot). Thank You...
Hey, hi! The solution is the wonderful SEM Mode! So, u can do that to ANY DS-1, MIJ or MIT. |

i'm a big fan of the SEM mod as well and sold a few DIY kits to people on the forum.
as for what he seemed to be looking for, i'm not sure the SEM was the right choice as it doesn't really add any gain. it changes the color of the distortion to more of a tube drive sound, but it actually reduces some of the chunk.
i agree it's a tonal improvement by a wide margin, especially over a stock MIT DS-1. |

| When i saw video on YouTube about DS-1 Keeley SEM/Ultra Mod (by ProGuitarShop.com), & i like the sound of SEM mode, Ultra mode good but not what i want. I have enought the range of stock DS-1 distortion & think SEM mode only correct bass & mid-range without changing range of Distortion. Or no? If the range of distortion is not changed SEM mode is good. I can't find yje DS-1 MIJ sample compared to MIT. |

| A bit OT but I thought the DS-1 sounded like my MT-2 for some reason. They were sitting next to each other & of course the MT-2 was more configurable with its para & 2-stage gain, I still thought they sounded similar enough to send the DS-1 back to the store. It is a good pedal though. I'd like to have a modded version & should seek sound clips of the same.. |
