Alright guys, I'm practicly a n00b at this effects stuff, I have been using the BOSS/Roland Guitar Effects Guidebook vol. 19 to help me along the way. But this guidebook doesn't explain the problem I'm having. My set-up is Gibson Les Paul Custom>input NS-2>send NS-2>CS-3>MT-2>GE-7>return NS-2>output NS-2>CE-5>Fender HotRod DeVille 212.
The Noise Suppressor takes out all the noise like it should. The only problem is that when I stop playing and it goes to reduction mode, when I start playing again I don't get instant volume. It gradually swells back to normal volume. Why does it do this? I even placed the NS-2 at the end of the chain without using the loop and it still did the same thing. How am I supposed to get the instant volume back? It's kind of embarassing whenever you play a song that has brief stops in it and when you start playing again nobody can hear you.... PLEASE HELP ME!!

Try changing the decay. I don't have an NS-2, but I know on the NF-1 (Noise Gate) if you put the decay all the way up or all the way down (I can't remember which has which effect), the noise filtering will be completely ON and OFF, as opposed to faded in and out. Just try the decay knob at its extremes.

Just as a guess, it could be your compressor that's doing it. I've never used a compressor pedal before, so feel free to ignore this paragraph if you know what you're doing with your CS-3.

EDIT: I just realized you have this same topic going in the compact pedal discussion board.

Greg,

I have an NS-2 as well and I have had similar problems. I just figured that there cannot be done much with it. Mine swells as well and sometimes it cuts out all the low noise but leaves like an ambient sparkle of static...

The only thing that helps is reducing distortion volumes which does really work well with a large chain...I think only tweaking and accepting is your answer..
