I was thinking of getting a new tuner and like the thought of a TU-2 to slip into my chain of pedals but as far as I can tell it doesn't have a tunder needle when tuning. Would a Tu-12 or TU-15 be a better option?
Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated before I shell out my hard earned.

The TU-2 has a 'digital' tuning needle rather than an anologue one. Some people prefer the TU-12 for this reason. It also has a 'stream' tuner mode too.
Personally I prefer the TU-2 though as I'd rather have a tuner in a stompbox format and I'm more than happy with it. |

I've tried a few TU-12s and I was quite surprised to find that some are more "sensitive" than others. By that I mean, on some, the needle really stays quite still, while on others it can jump around a bit.
I A/B'd them all at once (mine a some friends') so the setup of gear, room, background noise and other conditions etc were all the same. (Mine was one of the better ones )
I don't know how the TU-12 affects the signal if you run it in and out in your chain as mine is connected to a "tuner out/mute" switch on my pedalboard but I have a feeling it might do.
Just my $0.02 |

Thanks for the input.
I assume that the 'needle' on the TU-2 is the lights moving left and right depending on how close you get to the note. Is it accurate though given you can see how many cents out you are?
Maybe there are better tuners out there? I've heard about a Peterson tuner, Fender also have a tuner in a stomp box and Planet Wave does too.
Any comments from owners of these pedal tuners???

Yes, the 'needle' on the TU-2 is just LED's which indicate the pitch deviation. The stream function cycles the LED's - the speed indicating the amount of pitch deviation.
I think the Peterson Strobostomp is considered the creme de la creme of stompbox tuners and is about as accurate as you can get because it uses strobe tuning. I had considered getting one but they are kind of expensive and I'm pretty happy with the TU-2. |

| I think the accuracy of the TU-12 is higher than the TU-2 as well. I'm not sure I remember the numbers correctly but I think the TU-2 is +/-2% and the TU-12 +/-1%. |

| I don't have either, but I would probably like a TU-2 (looks easier to use) however I get the impression the TU-12 is better because its about 10-20% more expensive than the TU-2 (from what I've seen anyway) |

| Nothing hard to use about a TU-12 of it's connected to a "tuner out" type connection. Just direct your signal to it and hit the string. Can't be any easier. |

Hmm I think I'm going to have to try and get a hold of a TU-2 and just try it for myself. I just keep thinking about spending the money on the tuner and then I think I could get another pedal which makes my guitar sound different, not just in tune!

Hi Ronster I use a TU-12, it's great & it's easy to use. You do have to take some care with it though, it has a proper analog meter & needle. and therefore may be more sesitive to being dropped. Though mine has seen better times, especially the vinyl case.
I believe Diggum12 (Hi & sorry to pre-steal your reply) he, uses one of the new Panet Waves Pedal Tuners, I'll leave it upto him now, to tell you how great & accurate they are.
I considered buying one for my setup, the pedal looks a bit like a fat starship Enterprise from Star Trek, but I already had a Tuner they sell for about $199 Aust in a nearby music shop.
Hey sorry to steal your thread for a moment, but do you, Stratman & HAGALAZ, know that Billy Hydes Music, here in Melb., have their Oct06 - Feb07 Catalog out, I got mine in the mail. I heard Allens in the City has theirs out as well.
As I said in the new pedals thead " The GAS hit pretty hard over here this evening", as in: Capital G ... Capital A ... Capital S
You can have your thread back now, just thought you guys from OZ, might be interested.

| I actually have a TU-15 that I bought about a year ago. I don't think I've tested it yet. I bought it because I wanted a tuner that I could use with my acoustic and the TU-2 doesn't have a built in microphone. Thing is, I tune the acoustic without a tuner instead. It may not be at concert pitch but it doesn't really matter. |

I use the TU-12H. fits nice in any bcb case. DR. BOB thinks it shouldn't be dropped and neither do I!
It is really nice for setting intonation because you can see the pitch change as you move the saddle. works good for intonation. the two LEDs in the meter window make it very useful for stage dark tuning too.
I have had both the first WHITE one and a Black one, and they have worked forever. |

Thanks everyone for the great tips.
I didn't think about tuning my accoustic. I guess I can use the tunder I have now but it's not the same once you have a newer tuner to go back!
Also I guess it would be good to have one that fits nicely into a BCB-60.
Hmmm... lots of things to thnk about! |
