Does anyone know if the Japan made BF-2 Flangers are better than the latyer Taiwan made? Is there a sound difference? |

| It's a question that comes up regarding all pedals made in both Japan and Taiwan. In some cases there may be a difference and in others not. The BF-2 remained virtually unchanged when production moved from Japan to Taiwan. I don't have both versions so I've never done an A-B test but I don't expect that there is much of a difference between them. |

| I've only noticed that very early BF-2's say "0" or "1" series serial number with BlACK LABEL on bottom tendend to sound noticably warmer than green label pedals, my direct experience. Bear in mind, no one hearing you play would likely tell the difference; however if you are picky about your sound, and have other wise quality gear (not playing small solid state practice amps from the late 80's) it could be worth your while to lounge around eBay as the japanese flangers, even the early ones can be had for $25 to $45 bucks. |

| i remembered last year, somebody was selling me a mint MIJ BF2. he told me that it has a certain chip that you can't see in newer versions of BF2. he also told me that he read it from reviews from another site....which reminds me to check on it....... |

I have noticed a lot of varying in the sound of a number of pedals I have had - CS-3 some are noisy some quiet, the BF-2 as noted above, DD-2s ESPECIALLY (had 5 of them), my only possible conclusion is some component change or simply some parts wearing out restricting voltages, or letting too much current through various parts of the pedal. I dunno. Anything can pretty much explain slight variances in sound for something that get's stomped on for a living!
For someone with the skills and with access to the Factory SErvice notes, perhaps someone who thinks a pedal is warmer or different sounding, can then get it benchmarked on an osilliscope and see if it is out of spec. etc.
just a thought I dunno. most of those who have a minty 30 year old pedal would probably rather take the approach "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" though |

| I have had both a silver screw BF-2 and a 90s MIT at the same time, compared them and thought the silver screw was a bit better sounding, not as harsh and hard sounding. Not a very big difference... |
