i don't know if anyone has posted something similar to this but i was wondering if anyone uses one of these things...i'm just curious...i'm into electronic guitar stuff and heard these things have really hard dist. and bright cleans...both of which i have a hard time believing but i don't know so i can't say...

so any thoughts/opinions/observations would be cool...

peace.

Yep... i have the pod xt pro(the 19" rack version)i mostly use it at home for recording or praticing through headphones...some of the models are great and some not so good...but i've got some good results recording with it,i never bothered downloading the upgrades for the amp sims or effects(which imho are very good)because i read the was some problems with the software and it created problems in the unit afterwards..i did use it just as an effects processor for a while with the amp sims on bypass through the loop of a mg series marshall with some good results....i'm thinking of downsizing my amps for a couple of rivera pubsters in the near future..and these have an effects loop so i might use it again in cojunction with my pedals for the rotary speaker effect in the unit and programme some delay times for some of the floyd/u2 stuff we do...i'm not mad about effect processors most of the time 'cause i think they can take the edge off your sound and i thought that the pod xt pro sounded pretty bad going through the front end of my amps....but in the effects loop with the amp sims in bypass mode and just for effects i thought it sounded very good..i also have the fbv shortboard and the volume pedal sometimes goes to the wah effect for no reason in the middle of a song(i never used the wah as i have a crybaby)so i'll probably not use it and just get the four way switcher for the leslie and multitap delay effects..in all i wouldn't sell it as it's a great tool for the home studio the marshall sims are imho very good especially the EVH plexi and the eric johnson jtm 45 ones, and the cool thing you can do with it is use a marshall 4x12 with a ac30 or supro amp or a marshall 100 watt with the supro's 1x8 cab etc... also the choice of mic used and amount of room ambience you want...like i said before some amp sims are better than others...and i've heard that the rackmount one i have is(i think)24 bit(whatever that means..) over the pod xt's 16 bit and some people think thats why people give the pro a bad rep....there going pretty cheap now from when i got mine so if your thinking of going for it for the few extra bucks go for the xt pro.....

Hi Heart and Soul

I use a POD 2.0, it's great for recording, in fact, in my humble opinion
it excels at direct recording, & into a a PA, but you can get a lot of varying responses, & opinions, if you run it into the front end of a combo or stack amp.

The cleans are very clean, and can be set to be very bright.
The distortion, well it depends on whhat you mean by "Hard"
The SLO and the dual rectifier, is about as hard as I get & use.

But remember that like other effects, you can run a dirt pedal or othyer pedals, before & after it.

I believe Franzoni on this Forum has a PODxT Pro rack, but dose not use it for live work, & whaen he did, he was disappointed by the actual wah, & just used a Crybay before it.

But I'm sure Franzoni, will chip in & give you a better explanation of his PODxt Pro Rack.

I have used a lot of direct recording front-ends both analog like the SansAmp GT2 to the Pod 2.0 & some. ( I do sill like my GT2)

To my ear, the Pod is the hands down winner.
But watch the input levels to the POD, it can make or break your tone & sound.
In fact I have done some recent recordings with the POD, & it's almost impossible to hear the difference between, it's emulation of a Fender Black face,
and my real Blackface...
I can hear the tirad of opinion & flames, that I might get hit with, after making this comment.

But in the end... Listen with your ears & Heart.

The Begringer GI-100 direct DI box has a great 4x12 emulation, that you can turn on or off, & it's cheap; 9V battery or Phantom powered.

I have the POD 2.0 Pro, POD XT Pro (with all models packs), and the SansAmp GT2. The PODs are good for recording and practicing through headphones. I mainly just use the Fender and Marshall models which sound good to me. The GT2 sounds good in front of a solid state amp. That being said I dont really use either PODs or the GT2 if I have the option of using a tube amp and pedals.

i sent Dr Bob one of our original songs a while ago and all the electric guitar and effects on it were recorded using the pod on a fender amp sim....it's very very useful around the house for late night recording especially when you have small kids in bed....

if big boss man is reading this...did you ever encounter any problems after downloading the model packs for the units...? a lot of people on harmony central thought they introduced buzzes and some other problems to the pod xt pro.....i would be interested in doing it if it didn't do any harm as i've heard one of the upgraded amps is a dumble clone....any feedback 'bro would be appreciated..........

i would just like to point out that when i was using my pod live i was shoving it in the front end of my guitar amp...i suppose a power amp would really be the way to go,or one of those atomic amps that are specially designed for these devices.....there was also a lot of debate over if you should use either guitar or full range speakers in the onstage cab.....

FRANZONI, I did not have any problems with the models packs. I got the full set in August 2004. Perhaps something has happened since then?

I'VE had a look at the line 6 site ...it's come a long way since i bought my pod xt pro..i got mine when they came out first i think around sept 2003....i think it was the first release of the software that caused problems soon after,i remember there was a lot of people complaining on discussion boards about problems so i didn't bother at the time but it looks like they sorted it out since...the fact you can download the bass amp package now is amazing...i think i will go for the lot soon.... as if we wanted to record our bass player could use my pod as well....class......

thanks everyone...and sorry for not being specific Dr. Bob...and as far as "hard dist" i guess i meant just very harsh/brittle/digital/metallic kind of distortion...i'm always looking for new distortion tones...

thanks again...

just a quick update....i'm using the pod again on a bypass setting for reverb and some pre programmed delay patches(as i said before some of the effects are excellent especially the delays and echo sims)i'm using the dynacord rotary sim unit in the stereo effects loop of the pod...i found that i had forgot to change the "what are you connecting to" question on the pod...i.e...i had it set for studio instead of 2x12 guitar amp.... so anyway i have two gigs coming up at the weekend so i'm going to try them out again(with my boss pedalboard of course..)and i'll report back..but in the house going through my musicman in mono the results so far show some promise....maybe the neighbours would be slow to agree.............

i've been trying very hard to incorprate the xt pro into my live set up but i've come to the conclusion the it takes something away from my live sound that i just can't live with..i tried running the dynacord rotary sim unit through the pods stereo effects loop and then tried it straight inline to the amp and the pod is sucking the effect of the dynacord down too much for my liking.....again i would like to state for the record that the pod is great for recording and i've got some great results with it also for messing around at home with headphones when an amp isn't an option but i can't see how this is going to work for gigging.....if DeFrag you want it just for the times you can't plug your mesa boogie in and let rip or for some home recording i would say it's pretty decent for these purposes....
